yeah airplanes are typically faster above a range of 300 miles or sth

the problem with long-distance trains isn't ideology, it's just an issue of physics/engineering. Airplanes typically travel around 800 km/h (~ 600 mph), which means you can make the 3000 km (2000 miles) distance from seattle to new york in roughly 4 hours.

good luck trying to achieve these speeds with a train.

fun fact: the information in the entire universe might be zero, because as long as you don't observe it, everything is in a superposition so it has no defined state. compare it to a video game where the chunks haven't loaded yet, it doesn't take memory space.

so, if you don't think a single thought, the universe actually does not contain information at that moment.

well it's the thought experiment presented in wigner's friend. what if you put the one doing the measurement into another box? basically, you have two different descriptions of the world, depending on the perspective. the world is in different states for the person in the box and a person outside the box.

now, what i'm saying is that as long as you put yourself into a box and don't communicate with the outside world at all, from your perspective the world is in superposition because you've done no measurement.

me, yeah, games can be fun. carrying people around used to be a favorite activity of mine. sometimes i could carry people piggy-back for 100s of meters.

yeah centralization would mitigate these issues, i.e. there should be a central location where we all meet up. the difficulty is figuring out where to place this center.

in fact, if you look at population maps, you can easily see that most people are concentrated on the east or west coast. this is largely already because it reduces average travel times between one person and the next. (it also helps the economy, shorter transport -> cheaper transport).

btw the reason why airplanes always travel at that speed is because it's slightly below the sound barrier, which would make things a whole lot more difficult. speed of sound is 1200 km/h (800 mph).

You see, some operating systems are mostly operated by sound. If you mute them, they stop working. So it makes sense that you can't mute them.

I disagree. There's a lot of reasons why people don't have children, including:

  • emotional devastated youth (abandoned by parents, addicted to smartphones, misunderstood by society)
  • people can't find partners for this reason
  • too much stress from too much work
  • wages are barely keeping up with inflation, and I project they will in fact not keep up in the long term in the US due to missing labor protections and decreasing demand for labor.
  • rising cost of living because politically, nobody really cares about the population.

edit: sorry i realized i made these points US-specific but you were talking about russia, sorry.

Shootings in kindergardens should not get less attention that shootings at CEOs.

Am I going to have to worry that my daughter, when she reaches a curious age, starts exploring with vegetables?

No. Worrying doesn't help anyone. Just relax.

It's less cold than it looks, i've tried that.

Snow is an excellent thermal insulator, and the air in that chamber can be quite warm, like 15°C, without really melting the snow.

I find the idea of not expecting too much of oneself can be extremely liberating. Just let go of the stress, relax and enjoy life.

There's three types of liberal:

  • politically liberal (means you can say what you want)
  • economically liberal (means your company can do what it wants)
  • socially liberal (means you can love who you want)

typically, it's important to distinguish which types we're talking about. An economic-liberal is sometimes also called a neo-liberal, and does typically not help social wellbeing.

I do wonder why people buy smart TVs instead of getting regular displays together with a Linux PC.
