Didn’t this happen to a Walmart in a small town? The Walmart took over all the small business and employed most of them, so when they pulled out of the area because of theft it took all the remaining jobs away?

Daily Mail Link

I found this article but it’s daily mail and doesn’t talk in depth about it.

https://www.seattletimes.com/...

I think this might be it? However it doesn’t comment on loss of local jobs…

Private sites that people upload torrents to. A lot of them have requirements like “upload at least 1 content that we don’t have” and “must maintain a seed ratio of x”. Most that I’ve seen either have closed registrations, requiring someone to invite you as a referral, or they have interviews to make sure you’re not malicious”.

I’ve always wanted to be in one because every once in a while I can’t find content that’s old/obscure and it’s super annoying and supposedly private trackers have a bunch of old/obscure content as-well as super new stuff like blu ray rips and native stream rips.

Also another factor is heavy vehicles. I don’t have the article or video, but I remember hearing that a majority of road damage comes from heavy vehicles. I believe the video was also comparing roads to Rome roads where it wasn’t that they were built better (although volcanic ash did help) it’s that horses and people are way less heavy than the 3,000+lb vehicles we have going almost 24/7.

Less road damage would mean less containments/pollution and less need for repair. So the future might be seeing more public transit and more rail transit for materials/products which would mean wherever we need to add more road or re do sections we would replace it with the greener option or potential normal asphalt since it wouldn’t need to be touched for another 20,30,40+ years.

Technology Connections just released a video about this. Those 100 year bulbs (and long lasting ones) used more energy and produced too little light to be useful for a majority of people.

Kinda funny that rather than explaining how toilets work you try to compare it to circuits, which I’d take a guess and say that a majority of people don’t know how they work, lol.

You can buy any one game separately. The master chief collection is just a bundle of all the halo games. So if you just want to play halo reach just buy halo reach.

Yeah as far as I’ve experienced they only ever ask for banking inside or right after signing the work contract.

It is when you’re a cloud hosting platform and you have 1000’s of photos uploaded daily. That 44k saving scales massively when talking about cloud hosting platforms. The jpeg xl format license is more open than webp which is controlled by google.

The new format also enables more features than just file size, a quick google shows it supports animation, 360 photos, and image bursts (as well as more technical specifics that allow for better share ability without needing to have an accompanying json file or dropping to RAW).

This is more important because it means websites can embed photos and the web engine whether it be chromium, Firefox, or safari can handle it natively without needing JavaScript or some other intermediary.

What about png? It’s just another competing standard. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter, but by not having competing standards we end up having one company controlling it. So since at the very least it gives a decent file size saving it’s good enough for me.

Destiny was doing fine until clearly expansion/content gear was put into the mtx store. Then the whole content vaulting happened and everything went down hill.

The content vault was done to reduce storage space requirements by removing the main story and multiple planets. The story put in to replace the base story made little sense and was just badly designed. In effect this meant the base game (previously paid content) and paid expansion content was removed. No refunds or anything as the policy you sign to play says they can remove content at will.

Yeah once you get the hang of using keywords using search engines become easier, although for the past couple years googles results have been getting worse so we might not have long left before search becomes useless entirely.

You might have grabbed the wrong iso. There are two ISOs for Ubuntu, one is desktop which comes with a desktop and the other is server which only comes with a text console.

You can install a desktop onto a server image if necessary, however I would recommend just using a desktop iso and don’t bother with adding on and setting up all the desktop software.

If you want to be able to select text, copy and paste, I just SSH from Windows Terminal or Mac iTerm2

Alternatively if it is a desktop iso then you might have accidentally installed a package that broke things or have gone a tty interface. There’s so many different possibilities it’s going to be hard to help more.

MP4 and MKV are container formats, when you ‘compress’ to a mp4 you’re actually compressing the video file inside of the mkv and changing the container format to mp4.

It doesn’t make sense which is why people believe Google has ulterior motives. I haven’t seen any real reason not to use jxl as the new format; but I also haven’t looked that far into it. ¯\(ツ)

Wait it’s been 4 years? Time really goes by. Yeah with most Ai things I assumed those with more time and resources would create better models. OS Ai is at a great disadvantage when it comes to data set size and compute power.

Future of AI is definitely going towards Manager/Agent model. It allows for an AI to handle all the tasks without keeping it to one model or method. We’re already seeing this with ChatGPT using Mathematica for math questions. Soon we can see art AI using different models and methods based on text input.

Ohhh, yeah. I have no idea why back then code wasn’t seen for what it is. I’ve been told by older people that back then the idea that if it compiles it’s fine, was ok… or something along those lines. I think today we even still of a ton of those issues due to every framework and language being so different, lacking standardization.

Throughout every thing I’ve ever learned, the biggest realization I’ve had was that without forcing policies, companies will do whatever is necessary to line their pockets.
