anyone out there?
@kbin.social
anyone out there?
I'm just gonna come out and say it because I think people don't realize and it may be specific to US - if kbeans sticks we will be called "kbeaners" by trolls until the end of time, as it includes a racial slur aimed at hispanic/latino people
Honestly I bet a fair amount of people will even unintentionally use it without realizing. And if we have the ability to choose, I'd rather our nickname not be something that invites people to easily combine it with a slur
Been here since just before the blackout and I'm not big on kbeans. First of all it sets us up to have a derogatory nickname, likely even unintentionally so. Secondly it has nothing to do with kbin other than vaguely resembling the word 'bin'
I've been partial to kbinaut. No one will question where we're from. Keeps kbin in the name. And a bit more on theme as the 'fediverse' kinda has a loose space vibe to it and with kbinaut resembling astronaut
Tears of the Kingdom without a doubt so far. Enjoyed every second of it.
Honorable mentions are Hi-Fi Rush, RE4 Remake, Diablo 4 - even Jedi Survivor (especially if it didn't run like shit).
And I fully expect Starfield, Spiderman 2, and Baldur's Gate 3 to give TOTK a run for its money. Honestly a great year for gaming despite some shitty PC ports.
I disagree. I really think closing ourselves off to a bunch of places goes against the spirit of the fediverse. I want to be getting content from a lot of places which I can then filter out and control myself, and I feel like kbin supports that mindset well. I understand why some would want to defederate and close themselves off, but I don't want kbin.social turning into beehaw. If you're looking for a more controlled instance, join them
These platforms are still pretty early in their infancy and I don't think they were quite mature enough to take on this sudden influx of users (through no fault of anyone). There's going to be some growing pains but we'll get through it and this platform will get better from it
Honestly that's my only issue with this. Ernest was totally rightfully called out for this, as he should have been. But Emma's knee jerk reaction is just a real bad look. Don't make any attempt to reach out and figure out why it's in there. Immediately make a public post accusing him of stealing code, trying to hide that he stole it, and claim it as his own...on a FOSS project no less...
Surely there's a step or 2 before that point..
Right, I wasn't saying it shouldn't have been a public post. Just that the public post shouldn't have immediately jumped to accusations. FOSS or not, accusing someone of stealing code and intentionally trying to obfuscate its origin to pass it off as their own is a big deal for a developer. One that can destroy your reputation
A simple "I've noticed snippets in here of my work that falls under a license which is not attributed at all. Could you add the proper attributions or remove it from your project?" says the same thing and doesn't jump to any accusations that you have no idea if are true or not
I always feel like these posts come from people who've only ever lived in a city. I'd love to catch a bus sometimes but I'd have to bike an hour to the nearest stop and even then it likely won't stop where I need to go. In some parts of the US at least, it's literally impossible to only use public transportation. So you buy a car and if you move somewhere with good public transportation...you've already got a car and are used to the freedom anyway
Also the US is very large geographically so if you have to travel often it makes far more financial sense (not to mention saves a lot of time) to get a car
Defederating from problematic instances that are promoting illegal activity that would attract the FBI is a bit different from "Defederate, massively".
Intentionally or not you're making it sound like if we don't follow beehaw's lead the FBI is going to be after ernest, who lives in a different continent and even has the project partially funded on a grant
I think the funniest thing in all of this is how so incredibly easy it took for Reddit to swing into the support of these profit-driven and greedy decisions simply because it slightly inconvenienced them for a couple days. Like the second they're faced with something that could disrupt their daily content feed they just completely bend over backwards
I don't expect everyone to be perfect, I'm certainly not, but at least have the guts to admit there's a problem. The fact that all these users perform Olympic gold-level mental gymnastics to somehow justify the blackout is not only something that won't help at all, but the people doing it are wasting time and are idiotic is...well actually that's pretty on point for the site
Honestly I won't get one but I'm fine for Elon to break into it. I kinda feel like that's the only thing he does well. Funnels money into concepts people believe are impossible. Fail until there's some small success and let other, more competent people learn from those failures. I think I'd rather have that than stay stagnant and/or have the Russian brain chip become the standard
Personally I think kbin and @ernest should take a more backseat approach to this stuff, apart from very radical exceptions. If you don't like content/people/magazines that you see, simply block it. If you want to join a community that will outright ban people who disagree with you, check out Tildes (left) or SaidIt (right) which are more 1:1 Reddit replacements (not in the fediverse though)
Time will tell what the overall approach for this is on kbin, but the great thing about the fediverse is if things get out of hand or take a turn here you don't like, you can simply find another instance or a different fediverse site altogether and still interact with mostly the same people/content. But I personally very much like the relaxed and not-very-political space kbin has been so far
I don't believe there's a native way to do this unfortunately. Currently you can only search for other communities (magazines) specific to your kbin instance. As @ChrV noted there are ways to do this via 3rd party
However, once you find a community from another compatible instance you can search for it through kbin.social and subscribe to it. Like searching for "mildlyinfuriating@lemmy.world" without quotes in the search bar will let you subscribe to the mildlyinfuriating community on lemmy.word and the content will show up under kbin.social/sub
thanks for using Leebra!
