Looks like I'm an outlier here. I run navidrome on my server, but for jams on the go I use a HiFi Walker H2 dac/mp3 player with Rockbox. I sync my library from the server to the sd card when I add new music/podcasts/audiobooks. I wrote a python cli tool for the syncing.

At home I use the web interface on my laptop, and an old android (wifi only) phone connected to Bluetooth speakers for kitchen tunes.

Capitalism.

Healthcare and insurance are for profit industries and the corporations running the healthcare and insurance business don’t give a fuck about the health of the patients. They want all the monies and want to move patients through as quickly and cheaply as possible to maximize their profits.

Translation:

“Fuck you for not replacing your perfectly fine and still working 10 year old machine and making our line go up more. We’re gonna do our best to brick it because we want all of your money.”

Fuck capitalism. I will (and have been) doing my absolute to avoid buying any kind of physical device that requires an app to function

Is this law broad enough to also catch up Proton and its services?

This attack by governments on encryption is getting more and more concerning.

Jesus. That's brutal. I'm not in the software world and have never experienced an process like you just described.

I do remember feeling similarly disgusted years ago applying for a retail job where I had to do an insulting "phone" interview/test where a computer asked me a bunch (like 20-30) of dumb fucking questions like:

  • "Have you ever stolen money from your job?"
  • "Do you think it's okay to come to work drunk?"
  • "If you put money in a vending machine and got two items instead of one, would you put additional money in for the second item?"

That last question very specifically is one I'll always remember because of how incredibly stupid and insulting it is.

I hope you find work at a company that respects you as a human being and as a professional.

Interestingly enough, this concept was used in pattern making for casting machine parts back before modern machining and parts manufacturing.

They were colloquially called shrink rulers, and looked like a standard ruler, but were actually longer to account for the shrinkage of the material being cast.

For example, say you're casting a part from iron, which shrinks 1% as it cools, which amounts to 1/8 inch per foot.

An iron shrink rule would look standard, but actually measure a foot as 1 foot 1/8 inches to account for the shrinkage (this is an example and not meant to be actually accurate).

Source: am historian that interviewed pattern makers that used shrink rulers in their work.

Privacy. That’s iPhone.

Unless the government says otherwise. Because really we don’t give a fuck about you or your privacy.

I’m familiar with a multibillion dollar international corporation that uses an excel spreadsheet to communicate between divisions.

Not email or slack or teams or the telephone. An excel spreadsheet.

The left column is where one division enters a message, and the right column is where the other division responds. For a new message, you start a new row. The file lives on a network drive.

Isn't this like the third time they've done this and it lasts until Microsoft backs a dump truck of money up to the government?

Don't get me wrong though. I hope it sticks! Fuck Microsoft.
