From what i remember, it has to do with the noise of flowing water. Bevers find the sound annoying and will cover it until it stops.

I remember a study where they played river noises from a speaker and the bevers covered the speakers with sticks -- even in the absence of any water.

They can happen to anyone. Some hypothesis why they happen include: uv damage to skin, hormonal imbalences, malnourishment, and genetic factors.

I once had one on my shoulder and it really weirded me out lol

Glad you freed yourself from all the stuff. I had a similar experience clearing out my grandma's hoarded house.

I am curious though, why take it to the dump instead of donating it to a thrift store?

I think the issue was more about forcing intense discourse on people who aren't interested in having that conversation at that moment.

You werent banned for calling out transphobia, you were banned because you were being pedantic and argumentative. Plus you were on a new account so everything all together made it look like you were trolling.

I think if you had stopped after one or two comments it would be fine. My rule is generally to point out something if I feel it needs to be said, then maybe give one more clarifying response, then let it go.

Another choice would be to make a separate post somewhere discussing the neuances of 'disliking politics' -- then people who comment on it clearly want to have that discussion and are opting in.

It seems like the situation triggered you, and sometimes the most productive choice is to step back from the conversation and move on.

Sorry you got banned, i hope you find a new comfy home on lemmy!

Be the change you want to see. There are probably other people looking for those coversations, but see low engagement and move on. The more you post the more attractive it makes the community for other people.

I have also found that even if there are fewer comments, other people tend to respond and have more discussions.

I do have alot of hope that well see the community continue to grow & hopefully more activity as people search out reddit alternatives.

I has this happen with the fifth element. I found out Luc Besson is a pedophile who has gotten multiple young girls pregnant. Including a 15 year old he started seeing when she was 13, who he left when she turned 21. The movie is so different knowing about him and his views & it really changes how i watch the movie. Its no longer a fun feel good movie for me. Especially because two of his young wives star in the film.

Cool to see how much loops has grown even just in the last year. It gets more and more viable as an alternative all the time. Love seeing the fediverse continue to grow

Lol i kinda enjoy the weirdly serious discussions about shitposts. Its both absurd and oddly insightful at times.

Lemmys will follow any topic over the edge of a cliff :P

Yo db dont let these haters get you down. I think it looks like a really cool project and love the idea of a shifting banner than anyone can contribute prompts to. I also love the idea of backgroud details being influenced by various metrics of the community.

AI is a tool (just like photoshop, electric lawn mowers, and combustion engines). Anyone who thinks its replacing artists are really underestimating the editing needed to produce something good from AI generators. And this is comming from a writer who loves how much AI has helped with various parts of the process.

Try and be upfront with people about my identity from the start to avoid that awkward 3 dates in & suddenly theyre spewing TERF shit at me.

Beyond that ive found most my relationship successes to be from friendships that develop into something else (most often with a fellow gender queer person).

For real. Disappointing to see all the weird misogyny & judgements on these random woman.

Even the ones being positive towards one of the women only do so by putting down the other woman.

Its kind of scary to think of how the profit motive is capable of decaying even our basic infastructure and transportation. Hopefully it serves as some sort ofwake up call and change comes before things deteriorate any further.

Really well written article, thanks for sharing.

This all looks super awesome! I appriciate all the work you are doing & look forward to being able to use my srlpnk login for a variety of fediverse services :)

Also its really cool db0 created a automated photoscanning tool. No one should be forced to personally review content for things like csam đŸ€ą

Also here are some code of conduct points that could maybe be useful:

  1. Solarpunk is about looking towards brighter futures. Please try to find optimism in what can be very grim realities. This means moving away from doomer talk about how all hope is lost. We all know there are problems so lets work together to create solutions.

  2. Stay civil when talking to others. We all have different views, and many of us are passionate about them. This does not give you the right to insult, brigade, or bully another person. If something is truely harmful, disgusting or hateful, please report it to moderators so it can be removed.

  3. Activism puts the punk in solarpunk. As all punks know though, some plans must be made in secret. Lemmy is an inherently open and accessible space. ANYONE can read when is written here: the FEDs, lawyers, even the company youre planning on sabatoging. Do not use this space to plan activist work. Use secure channels instead, such as an end to end encrypted messaging service.

  4. Encourage others to take positive steps, even if they are small ones. Lets lift each other up and make this a welcoming space for people to explore how we can make tomorrow a better place.

That was a super interesting read. Its amazing she can be so polite when talking about him, i guess time and perspective can do that.

Also for anyone curious, the post nup did not hold up. Justine gets 20k monthly plus an unspecified alimony, in addition to the 15 million she got at the time of the divorce.
