Almost done with "Stiff" by Mary Roach. Funny, well written overview on cadaver treatment through history.
This cartoon of Mark Zuckerberg is the most lifelike and emotive he's ever seemed. Usually he's got RDF, Resting Data (Star Trek) Face.
It just doesn't even make sense to me. Treating prisoners inhumanely is par for the course for the GOP, but zero A/C means everyone, guards, chaplain, warden, etc. suffers. You would think for their OWN selfish sake the employees would unionize and demand A/C. Police have unions, why don't 'corrrctional facilites' officers? Maybe they do and I'm just ignorant, Idk.
I love this. Without even looking at the OS version I can ID the one I started out on. Trip down memory lane. Ty
To Lemmy's credit, there are definitely more of them on reddit, and even more (proportionally) in the comments on imgur.
I always think of this post whenever I hear someone dead-set on nothing less than massive, systemic change.

I would not have known about it had OP not posted & you not commented, thank you.
This is a very valid feeling. But it doesn't sit well in the context of therapy. Like, this is individual therapy dealing with trauma from systemic problems. Like, if it's outside of my locus of control I can either let it affect me forever or try to do something about it, even if that something is letting go (or even forgiving, as far-fetched as that ideal seems these days). Part of going to therapy is taking agency. There is a problem, in some small way I will do whatever I can about it.
I can't just be mad with this and raise my mental pitchfork bc this is an illustration of someone rightfully truly struggling and their mental health physician pointing them towards the painful way out. I think the takeaway is less "how could anyone expect anyone to get over anything this heinous" and more one of horrible feeling of trying to hold onto the one thing you're left with when someone is taken from you like that --anger-- and coming to terms with the fact that that anger is still hurting you long after. Your therapist is not going to start the revolution or the purge for you. They are literally there to help you and you alone with things that trouble you and you alone. When they talk to survivors of abuse as children, rape victims, they aren't going to go out and slay the offenders, even if they want to. They are just trying to work with the tiniest amount of control a victim still has after the crime to help the victims make real change for themselves.
I guess overall it might not be productive to take that private struggle and put it out to your tumblr mutuals to validate you and build resistance to letting go but Idk. Healing can take many forms.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. If you wait until you feel great and have all the time in the world to ever go to the gym you might work out 1-2 days a year. If you wake up late and are tired but commit to at least going out and walking down the street and back at lunch and you do the latter more often then you'll be way ahead of the former situation. Maybe different strokes for different folks. Perfectionism ruins a lot of dreams and ambitions of people that would accomplish a whole lot more if they just stopped overthinking about it and learned to leave well enough alone. Just ask any former 'gifted and talented' student.
Conscious consumption! I like it. It's a big part of what they advocate on the Frugal Friends podcast. Just need to figure out the "we have McDonalds at home" of fossil fuels. Hybrids & bikes can be a good first start.
I recently traveled and I brought my old iphone 6 and made sure my physical SIM was compatible with both and checked with my carrier as well. One issue I keep running into is that the digital boarding pass and email communications for updates from the airline just make issues like flight delays, reroutes, lost baggage, or missed flights so much faster to deal with, especially if there are minute by minute updates and a time crunch in an airport I'm not familiar with. I guess the best answer there is to have a dedicated email address for airline comms and make that the only connected account for your backup smartphone.
IMO the precedent needs to be a proportion or percentage based item, not an arbitrary number. Something big enough to massively hurt, like 30% of this or last years' post tax profits will be fined and Alphabet and all subsidiaries will be deemed ineligible for any tax waivers, deductions, or credits for a number of years to be determined by a jury, no less than 1 no greater than 100.
Slogging away at the long non-fiction "The Plot to Kill King" -William Pepper. I say slogging because I only give myself about 15-30 min for reading time each night and it's a hefty book, appendices and all.
"Ok, now who wants to help me move a couch up these stairs?"
Asus has some pretty jank DDNS and remote access defaults, and they like to push their suite of mobile apps for managing that crap. If SoHo users aren't limiting device connections to trusted endpoints then maybe that's how these routers are being compromised? It's not manufacturer specific but Asus is the majority according to the article.
When it works, it's great!
Thank you for sharing, I had only heard of it tangentially until a Mr. Beat video on the Vietnam War. There's a lot of fictional media in that time frame that references atrocities like this in that conflict, beyond just Apocalypse Now.
the purported 'libertarian' GOP here is going to start letting people make their own choices & have bodily autonomy any day now. It's been decades in the making but I just know they're going to start this year.
