If it's closed source but can be self hosted, what is the business model? I think it would be hard to fight piracy in that case. If it requires connecting to a service periodically for licenses and has no free version that doesn't require that, then I believe it should be banned. I don't consider that self-hosted. If the company disappears and the served goes down, its dead. That's just running on your hardware, but not under your control. If the application is open or can be run locally without connecting to their servers and the paid portion is an add on like working as a proxy or something, then I have no real issue with that.

That said, there definitely should be a higher standard for users who are only marketing here. They should be making posts specifically for this group, not just sharing generic ads. The post should specifically state why it's useful to self-hosters and thus relevant to the group.

Yeah, we get that kind of stuff all the time at my job. Asking for feedback on ethical policies was my favorite, because damn I'd have some feedback there, lol. Usually we get surveys asking about the annual trainings we have to do and one is ethics related, but not ethics of the company. Ethics training is just about employees protecting the company, not really about actual ethics. I kind of wonder if the security team was trolling considering how hard they've been hit recently by unethical staffing reduction and thus drastically increased workloads.

I mean it's a "water is wet" kind of "discovery" for anyone who has or understands ADHD, but it's nice to see it spelled out in an accessible way for laymen. Many types of neurodivergence have advantages, it's just that those advantages are not as impactful as the disadvantages because they the disadvantages break societal norms. Just like a person in a wheelchair breaks the societal norm of stairs. Unless accommodations are made, they disabled person is unable to participate in society and thus they are unable to use or sometimes even show their advantages.

Hasn't worked on most sites in a long time. The obscuring is now done on the server side so the text never gets to the browser. Otherwise it used to be easy to just use the developer console or uBlock to just remove the components that concealed the text or prevent the browser refreshing to prevent the concealing.

Vaultwarden will survive. Since the client is open source, once they close the API and break compatibility of the clients with Vaultwarden, the old version of the app can simply be forked and rebranded. I also do hope that the KeyGuard app will continue to support vaultwarden as well since if bitwarden closes the API and makes a breaking change, as is likely to happen, it will break KeyGuard as well, but it will still work with VaultWarden for some time.

The real issue is that many people who are using Bitwarden aren't savvy enough to host Vaultwarden in a secure way. Many people are careless with things like secret keys and such and dont know how to properly secure a web facing app or a VPN into their local network. But anyone who self hosts should result learn those things anyway. This one just happens to be a particularly high risk since it contains all of your passwords for everything else.

Ubuntu has that dumb subscription to get security updates that pushed me away. Sure it was free for personal use, but I don't want to have to give my personal information to get updates that are created primarily by volunteer open source developers anyway.

Yep, that's why I left most social media and try to keep things private. Not because i have anything to hide. I just don't want everything I do, read, and say to be used against me or trigger hate-based attacks. These days everyone has at least one thing that some hate group would target them for since that's how fascism works. Make everyone an enemy in small subgroups and trigger hate against that small subgroup whenever you need to distract from taking away rights or taking people's money.

It doesn't make sense not to if the purpose of gender marker on identity documents is truly for the purpose of identification. If the person has breasts and wears a dress, but has an M on their document then the field becomes useless.

My preference would be to eliminate the gender/sex field altogether as it has never properly worked for intersex people who sometimes biologically don't conform. And considering most IDs have pictures these days and how fashion changes over time, like that women in most cultures are now allowed to wear pants, it is outdated anyway without invasive pat downs, strip searches, or x-ray machines to verify genitals. And what use is that really.

Yep, the wait for initial consultation in my area just went from 18 months to at least 24 months (and that's just the initial consult, not surgery).

I had to travel for mine last year because I knew that was going to happen, but I was hoping to get my revision, due to some complications, here, but I've only been on the waiting list for 16 months. Now with TSA restrictions and birth certificate update delays and my old passport about to expire, I likely won't be able to fly for years and so can't get the revision any time soon despite the immediate pain it's causing.

TERFs make me sad. The fact that they have decided that people want someone less deserving of equal rights than them is so short sighted. If trans rights are removed, it just helps justify removing their rights shortly after. Gay marriage is already on the chopping block again in the US. And women's rights in general after that since much of the justification is biblical, not scientific, and in biblical terms, women are property of men.

The USSR wasn't communist anyway, it was fascist, just a different brand. They pretended to take everything "for the people", but really then just gave everything to the powerful, not the people. That's not communism at all. There has never been a truly communist major power. Can't be communist with power centralized to a few people like current China, North Korea, or USSR. Maybe they started trying to become communist, but they never got very close even, it's in name only. Just like the Nazi party in Germany wasn't at all Socialist, but that's part of the actual name.

So, if they can't preside over a wedding, they shouldn't be allowed to preside over any cases that involve LGBTQ+ people since there's a possibility that they are religiously obligated to imprison or murder such people based on many "sincerely held beliefs" and since they have the power to do those things legally, it sure seems like a perceived conflict of interest. Or something along those lines should be true. So, if any use this to decline to marry, then I hope lawyers will use that to their advantage against that judge in their own cases.
