I really don't get why all these social platforms try so hard to just be copies of each other. I like having diverse and different platforms for different things. Once they all started homogenizing, I really stopped using most social media.
And when LinkedIn added their ripoff of Instagram Stories I was like...aaaaand that's it for me. Why does a professional site need a stories feature?
The CEO just tripled down and said they are not changing their intended API pricing regardless of how many subs and users go dark.
Even if they did, I think a lot of redditors have been fed up with some things with Reddit (both the company and the first-party app) for a while.
Of course, there will be people who just don't care and will continue to go about their redditing as usual, and those who will go back. A fair number of my close friends don't care at all as they use the first-party app, have no complaints, don't moderate any subreddits, and don't follow the Internet news.
I would love to see my primary communities move over to federated social platforms. It reminds me of the Web1.0 and earlier Web2.0 days.
I definitely agree with this. I'm a very tech-savvy person and while I think I understand how it all works, I am confident there are plenty of people that will look at Lemmy and the fediverse and go "uhhhh...nope I guess?"
That's unfortunate.
I'm here giving it a try since I was using Sync Premium for Reddit for a long time before leaving Reddit. I was initially using the Voyager (WefWef) PWA and liked it a lot but definitely giving this a solid shot since I liked the Reddit one a ton. If I end up sticking around in the Fediverse and in Sync I might drop the $20 USD to remove adds and support the devs.
On a <5 minute video?
DP has embedded, can be carried over USB-C, allowing for everything to be handled over a single cable, is handled on connector instead of device-internal interface allowing for smaller/thinner devices, DP daisy-chaining, licensing/royalty differences, etc.
As someone who has to administer several hundred Windows servers and several thousand Windows workstations in our fleet (alongside our Linux and Mac systems), I was very sad that winget was not as good as I had hoped for. Chocolatey is still far better IMO, and neither is anywhere near as good as apt, rpm, etc.
I love the iPhone hardware. Especially the mini.
But I really don't like iOS. Or the lightning connector.
Same thing with Macs.
Overall I think Apple makes gorgeous hardware but the software just isn't for me.
I always tell people the best phone (or best one iPhone vs Android) is whatever is best for them.
My wife loves her iPhone and everything about it, and that's okay!
These align with my thoughts almost exactly. My logical brain wants there to be an instance that is field-based with communities hosted on it that are relevant. Think kind of like programming.dev then having like PowerShell, C, Rust, Java, etc. communities on it. But I also understand that that's not really how this works, and that's completely okay. Overall I've had a pretty good experience thus far.
The engagement, because of the significantly smaller userbase than Reddit, has made my first little stint much more enjoyable!
That's a good point! Put a slick enough front end on a platform and the vast majority of new users won't care about the back end for sure.
You're absolutely right, the app ecosystem will be crucial to its success and keeping it around. Jerboa is fine, but it's fairly lackluster, and is the only Android client I've found. Not to discredit the dev/team for Jerboa at all, it's actually quite good, until you compare it to the various third-party Reddit clients I've been using for decades.
I'm hoping lots of growth for Lemmy and the fediverse and that with that, the app ecosystem scales well, too!
thanks for using Leebra!
