Having human-made content called AI generated is more disheartening to artists than seeing actual AI slop. It tells you the battle will never be won.
I am floored that they get away with all they did. Give a company the authorization to hack into others and even without AI it will automatically compromise many, many computers.
In French this seasonal movement is called "transhumance". And funnily enough, I have seen people here confused by the whole "transhuman" theme by thinking it was related to sheepherding.
As someone tangentially involved in similar projects, it is almost impossible to sell something legal to run on roads for less than that. There is a missing legal category for self-built low cost low power vehicles.
I can make a 500 euros electric scooter from a second hand bike. It will be safe, but it won't be legal.
Every percent gain in battery weight compounds insanely for commercial flight.
It is the same problem as with rocket fuel. You have to store the energy to carry the capacity to store the energy. And that's even worse for batteries because at least the rocket gets lighter as it uses its fuel. Whereas a loaded battery is basically the same weight as a loaded one.
Today I learn that Americans do not even use the nautical miles. You are not happy to have an imperial ton of non divisible units you also need to have fucking homonyms?
Alternative proposal: European reset

LLM 360 probably deserves a mention there, trying to be open, reproducible and publishing intermediate training checkpoints.
meaning they’re not made up of unethically sourced training material
I am old enough to remember the days before 'piracy' was considered unethical. I still stand by that. Authors need to be compensated but also "publication" is supposed to give some rights to the "public". Sharing non-commercially things you love over internet used to be a gray zone that should have been the subject of a political debate. Instead, right holders decided that the letter of the law should strictly apply to conditions it was never designed for. I have little empathy for them moaning now that AI training, while not formally illegal, should be considered unethical.
A copyright reform is long overdue. Let's discuss it seriously instead of playing the game of "who can lobby the most?". In the meantime, enjoy the gray zone that refusing to update 19th century laws to the century of internet causes.
Imagine using nautical kilometers, road kilometers, space kilometers, imperial kilometers, protestant kilometers...
Now please tell me there are no nautical feet, yards, inches and furlongs
Well, it is certainly a social credit system, but we need to learn to not just think China when we think about it. the US credit rating system, most countries individual court files, all those are social credit systems, but some rules make some of them useful and some of them are tools of oppression.
Slashdot had an interesting system to dissuade karma farming. They would be capping karma at 50.
And mostly the only impact it had would be that you would have your publication start at minus one when you had negative karma. And above 10, you would get some moderation point, if I recall correctly (in slashdot, you don't get inifinite votes automatically)
The devs considered that most users who were contributing honestly would end up between 40 and 50 pretty quickly, and that it was okay to be downvoted a bit from time to time.
US: Let's not give an edge to China!
China develops its own tools
US: >_<
The last one has provided more direct military help than all the others in the picture.
Reddit is eventually going to die of enshitification. The best way to survive it is to make this alternative work and promote it regularly (in a non spammy way) on reddit.
