good start! but when internet gets turned off, anything using tcp/ip stops. look for coop cloud, Reticulum, LoRa radios if you can get them. you can build your OWN local area internet to communicate with your friends.

I'm not a fan of hybrids, but I drove one once for a week and it was massively cheaper/used less fuel. So I can't believe there aren't some benefits overall... but I'm still massively on team BEV. Just keep it simple! Get over your blimmin range anxiety people.

astonished there is zero mention of the kei class of Japanese cars. This class is deliberately made small, and I've been driving the first kei class EV for years: the Mitsubishi Minicab-MiEV, which were first produced over 15 years ago. Yes the original battery was small, but I got the battery pack upgrade (from an AU EV specialist) which is 30kwh, I live rurally and with much greater distances between fast chargers than you would find in Europe. And it is /fine/.

yeah - way to alert my spidey senses, where the fuck does this come from, is it from fucking US servers through Palantir or some shit? Is there info on how exactly it operates anywhere??

yikes!! that's nuts. In AU they seem to need to be "secondhand" to be imported if not an official dealer import, and the system recently got an overhaul to make everything worse/harder. I just wish we could harmonise with EU rules already, it's so damn stupid. Plus each state in AU has different rego rules and costs. Insanely inefficient and stupid. But at least we CAN import them, even though we are a tiny minority amongst the child-killers.

Oh, it's dangerous and harmful all right : to their business model.

I think the big G is probably starting to get pretty nervous about self hosting. It absolutely is a threat to their existence. They are nothing without users.

There's a lot of us fed up with enshittification and every video that helps people break free of their capture is extremely dangerous to them. Seriously.

This is the first time on Not The Onion I've genuinely been flabbergasted that it really wasn't from The Onion.

I guess they've calculated that people will react with similar incredulity and thus brands awareness, but still, wtf.

Reading the article, seems a major reason this is happening is actually climate change, which of course these knuckleheads don't believe in 🤦

I think we can all do something. I know our economy is tiny, but Australia buys way more from the US than they buy from us... and you know what a big chunk of that is? Services. Some of those are hard to shift but others are easier.

I've hosted all my websites and registered all my domains in the US for over 20 years.

That changed yesterday and I'm transferring everything over to Australia.

For Fedi, look at Australian servers where you can. Subscriptions? Fuck off Netflix et al. Get out of Google as much as you can. If you're here you are probably already out of FB and Reddit, but leave anything else you can that is US based and try to support AU or EU.

Don't buy US foods, cars, or technology where possible (let's face it, most of those are crap anyway).

And you know what, most of the US based internet is shit now too. It was fun 20 years ago, but consistent enshittification has been the worst in the US. At least the EU is trying to fight it.

Yes our economy is tiny, but we can change more than you might think, and as the rest of the world probably will do similar, the US won't be quite as well off as it thinks it is.

Lol. The trade deficit is massive on our side, so they are shooting themselves in the foot.

We sure as fuck don't need American wines. We used to bend over backwards to pay American film companies to film in Australia.

And there's guides everywhere now on how to de-American your tech.

Fuck off, you nutjobs.

Yup. It's why so many died, not from measles, but from other diseases in the 3-5 years after they had measles. IIRC they only really worked this out in the last 5-10 years because of the amount of data to comb through.

Let's call them what they really are, the fucking tech Mafia.

I just wish the average fuckwit would wake up and get off Facebook. That's the sticking point. Imagine the Australian govt banning Facebook: there would be protests massively bigger than over lockdowns. Because so few people could see the danger of a monopoly on how people communicate before people got addicted.

I hate this timeline.

Dude, this is an EV community. We ALL know what ICE stands for in this context. If you see ICE and EV in the same sentence or headline, it is VERY clear what the acronym is. Maybe if it was a tabloid newspaper where few people know much about EVs your complaint might make sense.

Gooooooo

All I can say is I hope this gives the RWNJs pause about voting for the potato, if they think stocks will go down even further unless we distance ourselves from the US, then we might not be doomed to 3 years of similar stupidity.
