@DmMacniel @TheGreatDarkness because it sells. And no matter what hobby stuff is going on, dnd players are disconnected from that to a point. There are people that do not even realize there is a wider hobby outside of 5e

@ageedizzle first thing I thought about when I read that question: the time when I time-travelled into the 50s.

I did not actually time travel, but I visited a small town in Germany, in my home area actually, that somehow had managed to pass through the 50 years before, seemingly without being affected. I was looking down main street and there was nothing there that betrayed we were in the 2000s. 1/2

@logicbomb @wieson he didn't. Everyone just randomly picked a side, and all picked that side.

Like a coin landing heads up 14 times.
A miracle.

@ageedizzle we went to a butcher shop to get some steaks and sausages (we were camping nearby) and not only did it look exactly like in pictures from the 50s, there also was a young girl in a dress, red hood and a basket, buying things for her grandmother.

I felt very disoriented as we went back to our tents.

@mastertigurius @The_Picard_Maneuver damn, I saw that comment without context on mastodon and immediately thought this was about American politics

But yes, there's nothing quite as stressful as literally having your hands full and a single wet wipe

@lugal @EfreetSK child mortality rates were pretty fucking high in earlier times. Around the time the original poem was published 40-50% of children under 15 died.

Only vaccines and modern medicine put this down to 4.2% globally in 2022, with the most developed countries reaching 0.3%

That is to say... that poem had a point.

Long-term Diagram of child mortality showing a sharp drop from 50% over most of hostory to close to 0-5% at current times

@1984 you know, over time i met so many people who were dumb, but I often just try to forget about them because it just depresses me.

Yes, I worked in IT support. And I don't even just mean customers, some of the dumbest people were colleagues. Some of them on higher levels, so they earned way more than me as well. Often I think I am the idiot to my colleagues.

You don't know what's going on with people in their lives. Although I still don't think outright maliciousness should be acceptable

@1984 the one guy I will remember forever was the manager who tried to make problems for us on day 1 of his employment.

I had processed the request for his windows accounts the week before.
Then he got his account and tried to make a big problem about not having all accesses. He decided to loop in management and board in an insult-filled email.
He got told noone was allowed to work on his stuff until he apologized to us, then got fired.
I processed his account deletion two days later.

@AttackBunny @JoYo modern music always sucks. the reason why the music of the past seems better is because nobody remembers all the chaff that populated the charts.

@Cocodapuf @ChilledPeppers we didn't adopt, but some of our friends did, and it's been hard.
I don't think they regret it at all, but hearing from them I always feel humbled when I feel exhausted from my own kids. At least we don't have to deal with the constant court cases from the side of the bio-parents they have to deal with.

Poor kid got into panic fits when he heard his bio-mum wanted to take him away.

@captainlezbian @GraniteM Hot Fuzz kinda did that, with the two main leads basically going all life partners with each other.
It seems the script originally had a female love interest which was found to be a bit extraneous, so they gave all her dialogue to Danny, making for some very subtext-laden discussions about life and stupid action movies.

@loboaureo @copacetic yeah. Until they decide to argue to revoke the license for reasons.

(Also you have to watch out what part is covered under the license, some stuff is gonna be product identity)

(Actually, the beneficial part of this is mostly that you can use their own expression of the rules to make games. Rules as such are not copyrightable, but if you are expressing the rules too similar to their own texts they still could sue you. Using such a license is supposed to take care of that)
