I've been using Wayland with iGPU+dGPU on many distros for years. The only problem is that it sometimes takes a bit of effort to let applications know which GPU you want them to use, and this problem has nothing to do with Wayland and would be the same with X11 or even Windows.

Porn will not fry anyones brain, lol.

Even before internet we managed to find and pass around porn mags, so it’s as pointless as the war on drugs.

In practice it's pointless, but in its reasoning it's actively harmful because it's an attack on healthy sex self-education.

Microsoft is losing Builders fast.

Good.

This is why Microsoft needs Windows Lite.

No, Windows needs to lose more users. Hope they never change.

Progressive rendering

This is really interesting. Now I wonder: would it be possible to use the same image for thumbnail and full view and instead control its display by maximum allowed transfer percentage? For example, by default, for thumbnails, all images on page are served only up to 15% of their full size, and when you click on them, the same image resumes downloading to 100% size. I mean, it's definitely possible to implement this, but it would be nice to see this widely supported without getting too hacky.

I have an impression that this is some legal rhetoric device that is intended to be used in courts in case there are copyright infringement claims. By saying that they don't accept such contributions they probably can make it a clear legal responsibility of the one who submitted the code and not the GCC project as legal entity. At least that's how I see it, but I'm not an expert in this topic.

I've been using Noctalia 5 on regular KDE/Plasma for a month or two. Currently it uses 53.9 MiB RAM according to ps_mem.

Rocket missing a military target sometimes means a rocket incidentally hitting a civilian object, so not good. All kinds of rockets and drones are used to hit targets in all major cities. They're not only used for some standalone objects in the middle of nowhere.

I use it together with plasmashell, not as replacement. I rebound "win+space" to trigger Noctalia instead. I use Noctalia as top panel and I use 5 extra KDE panels stylized with panel-colorizer in "dodge windows" mode. To use Noctalia I simply added "noctalia" into normal KDE autostart apps. Noctalia also automatically recognizes KDE/Plasma virtual desktops as workspaces.

What's wrong with this website. I don't see the button "reject". I'm not gonna accept whatever that is just to read this.

Wdym? UK started all of this. They've had age verification working since summer 2025, then EU joined and got it implemented in autumn for many sites like X for example where any NSFW content requires age verification (for more than half a year now), and US only started coming up with similar stupid laws almost a year afterwards.

I wonder if there's anything positive to be said about ISBNDB. On one hand, they're supplying AI companies, yes, on the other hand, they seem to be digitalizing previously unavailable paper books, which is kinda useful for preservation? Except, I'm not entirely sure it's possible to properly get this data out of them on consumer scale: they seem to sell API access, but it's a big question of how usable and affordable it would be to retrieve a digital version of some rare ancient book that could just disappear into oblivion otherwise. Their cheapest subscription is 15$/month, but I have little idea of how what's listed there translates into volumes of books you can retrieve during this month.

That's why I've been arguing for a long time that using VPN for everything by default is just basic security.

KDE Plasma 6.8 will be the first KDE Plasma release to remove the X11 backend, going Wayland-only. In KDE Plasma 6.8, there will be no X11 session on the login screen.

This is a big change. I will now need a separate DE for x11.

Just use it to replace stack overflow. That was never a good thing. ;)

It was and is a good thing. I think it's a huge problem that when it fades away future next generations of AI will not be able to learn from it. And the culture at that point will be to depend on AI instead of having sites like those, so even getting it back isn't going to work. Honestly I think maybe we need a new job: "experts" who just do some fun highly thematic stuff and post results online to train AI.

I have uBlock origin, it blocked 5 resources on load but it didn't prevent the "With our Pur subscription you can use heise.de without tracking, external banner and video advertising for €4.95 / month" popup.
