Had kind of a similar conversation with my dad recently. "I'm sorry you feel that way." "Well they're cutting Medicaid, so we'll see how that goes for you."

Every time this is asked, I post the same comment. I used Kubuntu for years and liked it, but more recently they started doing things that annoyed me. The biggest was related to snaps and Firefox. Now, sandboxing a browser is probably a great idea, but I wanted to use the regular deb install, so I followed the directions to disable the snap install and used the deb. However, Ubuntu overrode that decision several times - I'd start browsing, then realize I was using a snap AGAIN. Happened a few times over a couple years. If it happened once, eh, maybe an error, but it happened 3 or 4 times. I came to the conclusion I wasn't in control of my system, Ubuntu was.

I switched to Debian and am happy with my choice.

For those, like me, who don't remember the significance of the lights on the Wii remote (the console has been out of production for a decade or something now), the third light blinking means he's player 3.

I LOVE that he thinks his leaving government to refocus on Tesla will solve the sales issue Tesla has been experiencing.

He just does not get it.

They do believe the car thing. A relative of a friend told me she didn't want Biden to take away her Honda CRV because she liked it so much. She seemed to think it was a nearly done deal, Biden's coming to reclaim all fossil-fueled powered vehicles and make everyone buy electric cars. I didn't ask for details.

Of course, the Republicans are standing strong against this atrocity.

I'm a federal employee and have been for 25 years.

Some years back my parents were visiting from Florida and asked to borrow a car (I had two), and I said sure. Then, later, I said something about how busy work had been, and my father starts laughing at how funny that is - and calls my older brother - so they can share a laugh about me "working hard". Both lifelong Republicans, I will note.

I was like, hey, did you want to borrow the car that my hard work paid for, or not?

When I called them out on it, they said I was absolutely correct and apologized.

I have an ongoing irritation with windows (use it for work, Linux at home): It steals focus from the window you're using if another window opens.

Drives me nuts. I'll be typing my password and pop! Oh look I just typed my password into something else that popped up because IT requires this program to run on login today.

KDE is much better about not stealing window focus like that.

If bird flu is such a minor issue, I say we inject it into Donald Trump, JD Vance, RFK Jr., and Elon Musk. Demonstrate how safe it is. Do it. Come on. DO IT YOU WUSSES.

A friend of mine posted something on Facebook (reposted from a local list in Arizona) claiming that two people were knocking on doors and beating up people, and one woman was in the hospital as a result. Pictures of the perpetrators and everything.

Something felt off, so I did a quick search on their names. And I found an article from some city in Texas where the same rumor had been circulating about that area. The article clarified that the two people had committed some crimes several years ago and were caught, tried, and convicted already.

So someone took one of these, changed the name of the area, and posted it to the local list. Why do people do this? A form of stochastic terrorism maybe?

Edit - I can't find the post (I think my friend deleted it), but I did still have a tab open with the article about it.

And the way Trump was controlling the vote by endorsing candidates? The whole party is shackled to him, whether they admit it or not, and I hope the Democrats go HARD on that in the next election.

A friend of mine has that condition where she can't visualize things. I wonder how she would like this comic. My guess is she'd crack a joke about it being a good thing she can't do this.

I cannot imagine having an indoor/outdoor cat. I'd worry so much about them while they were away. And if they just disappeared and didn't return...I don't know how I could stand it.

We have 3 indoor-only cats. Obviously I'm pretty attached to them.

He did have a gigantic fuck up. He fucked up the response to covid-19. Badly. And how much did his fuck up make the situation worse in the rest of the world?

74 million people still voted for him in 2020. During and immediately AFTER that fuck up.
