@avidamoeba I was expecting CSU (the Bavarian sister party which is much more hard-line) to be the first ones, but CDU beat them to it
@ekZepp funny, I thought this is what Google search is nowadays:
"Threads was worthless because it’s the most boring social media website ever imagined. It’s a social media network designed by brands for brands, like if someone made a cable channel that was just advertisements and meta commentary about the advertisements you just saw. Billions of dollars at their disposal and Meta made a hot new social media network with the appeal of junk mail." @matdevdug
"Advanced Grants — for established principal investigators — saw the greatest leap in US applications, with the number nearly quintupling from 23 to 114. The ERC does not routinely publish information on the nationalities of applicants, but Kieron Flanagan, a science-policy researcher at the University of Manchester, says that he suspects many of these senior researchers are Europe-born or Europe-trained, and are “opting to use the ERC grant as a mechanism to escape the US system”"
This type of large scale engineering is quite dangerous, but still better this than what has happened for decades around the world and is still happening in Brazil.
"The EC has budgeted €175 billion for the 10th Framework Programme, a follow-up to Horizon Europe starting in 2028. Eurodoc has called for a budget of €220 billion, Dengo says. “Without a substantial increase in funding, and with Europe-based researchers already facing intense competition, additional incoming mobility will inevitably further increase pressure on the system.”"
>I am not anti-AI. I build and ship AI products every day. What I object to is the pattern where a CTO wins applause in Q1 for bold AI-driven headcount cuts, and then in Q4 is quietly rehiring those same roles through an offshore agency while attributing the reversal to "integration challenges." That is not progress. That is a career arc dressed up as transformation. And it is costing shareholders, employees and customers at the same time.
@artificial_intel
@IndustryStandard @Blaze on mastodon it's a reality. It's not on lemmy
>Here is what makes this worse than a normal bad tech bet. Most of these decisions were not made by people who understood the limits of the technology. Visier's head of research, Andrea Derler, put the problem bluntly, noting that senior executives have not taken the time to understand what AI can and cannot do, according to PeopleMatters. IBM's CEO survey confirmed it. 64% said the fear of falling behind drives them to invest in technologies before they understand the value.
@avidamoeba from Masto I don't see any pictures in this post. So no way you can see it from pixelfed. Or am I missing something?
@rivoluzioneurbanamobilita @milano direi che se cerchiamo di copiare gli aggiornamenti su https://feddit.it/c/ciclismo , ci vuole poco per convincere la gente che è molto più facile a ritrovare informazioni che su whatsapp
@reabsorbthelight an average full-time professor does not cover the requirements for an advanced grants. That's why an average full-time professor doesn't get several millions of funding.
@ekZepp @matdevdug "Instead it became the only place consistently posting trustworthy information I could actually access. This became personally relevant when Trump threatened to invade Greenland, which is the kind of sentence I never expected to type and yet here we are. It would be funny if I wasn't a tiny bit concerned that my new home was going to get a CIA overnight regime change special in the middle of the night."
@bundyo @bulgariaeu абе голяма беля стана. Тия поредни избори само му бъркат в джоба, а пионките в парламента вместо да си оправдаят рушветите, спряха парите от ЕС.
"Sir Charlie Bean, a former deputy governor at the Bank of England, told the BBC: "Stablecoins are only stable if they have the appropriate regulatory environment… But there is right now an unsurprising regulatory race to the bottom amid the potential for greater profits"
He added: "When funds are coming from major shareholders of such large financial institutions, there is a clear potential conflict of interest here, for example, in the appointment of a new Bank of England governor"
“And there is that endless joke: there is one absurd, parody, completely inappropriate candidate – and he is standing against Count Binface. That one is kind of funny.”
@Madrigal this seems to fall under participation:
"Decisions about AI are being made too fast, in private, by a small number of powerful actors seeking to further enrich themselves, with no meaningful mechanism for those most affected to intervene. Policy responses committed to participation would require communities, workers, and affected people to have formal standing in decisions about AI development and deployment, not as perfunctory consultees, but as ultimate decision-makers"
@mapto@feddit.bg compared to Bulgaria's 0, this is huge.
