When I last entered the US in 2009 they took my fingerprints and a photo. I assumed it to be mandatory.

I also had to "please follow me" to a backroom, but I kinda expected this as a muslim. Met some friendly mexican and pakistani people there, so it wasn't that bad. I still decided to refuse all business trips to the US from that day on (and avoided tourist travel there as well), as I just didn't feel safe.

Reading about it I am not completly convinced that he is innocent, but I think that there is 100% plausible reason to doubt that he is guilty. This should defintly be enough to stop an execution.

Tbh, I can understand it. There have been police raids kicking in doors of families with small children at 5 in the morning for having a Facebook post saying "from the ... to the ..." (I am also in Germany...). The police went through all of the families belongings and took all web-connected electronics.

Several EU countries already have fascists or borderline fascists in the government (Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary) or have a raising fascist force grabbing for power (e.g. Germany, Sweden).

It is actually worse. It confirms the right wing standpoints and thus leads to a general societal swing to a more right-leaning worldview. This is basically what framing is. You can see this very well here in Germany, were basically the whole political spectrum nowadays presents views that would have been considered far right just 10 years ago.

Honestly, I'd say it would be much much worse than your examples. It would be erasing parts of history itself.

From Germany: huh? Quite common around here and I am sure in other european countries as well, despite having different city building concepts than the US. Lately it is slowly being replaced by bike infrastructure demands (and there was always the public transport demands), but it still exists.

As someone from "outside the US": It isn't much better elsewhere. Italy has a fascist government, France is fucking up everything, Sweden has a governemnt depending on a borderline fascist party, the Netherlands has borderline fascists as part of the government, in Germany open fascists poll at 20% as the 2nd most popular party (elections are next month), Georgia is on the brink of civil war, Korea is in a utterly weird crisis/coup mode, in the middle east we are having a genocide happening, Sudan is in chaos, and so on and on.

On the bright side: Things appear to be somewhat okay in Spain and Belgium seems to have a somewhat half-working government.

True, but that is what did the trick. No tinkering, just a flawless experience (in most cases). This changed everything.
