They lost me at that price point, sadly. And I was really looking forward to this thing launching.

Valve makes damn good products, I'm rocking a Steam Deck and a SC in my personal collection, and love them both.

But my next PC upgrade was looking to be just that... a power upgrade. That was the main focus.

The small form factor, the excellent presentation, and the Valve quality that we all know this is going to have... they would have been nice. But right now I'm looking for equal or better than SM performance regardless of form factor, and I have my sights set on several possible options to get that, all of which are at least a couple of hundred dollars cheaper. Sorry Gabe.

Most people I know are only wearing masks now if they catch colds and flus and don't want to spread it when going out and in public.

Which seems to me to be when you'd WANT your food service employee (whom you probably forced to work while sick) to wear one, so that they don't spread it to the rest of your staff. But I guess I'm not a fast food company corporate executive, so what do I know?

You all might not be aware, but I think Rudd started this server only at the beginning of June for funsies, probably only expecting a couple of hundred users.

Then, of course, came Reddit API-calypse. Now, here we are barely 4 weeks later, almost 80k users on the instance. From nothing, to a respectable chuck of the fediverse, just that fast. Pretty amazing.

Yes. YES. This is what we're talking about.

Make the punishments hurt enough so that it doesn't make financial sense to improperly decline claims. It's the only way to get health insurance companies to behave, since we're dead set on keeping it a private industry apparently.

Slavery was about 99% of what drove the entire thing, so it makes sense to me.

Yeah, we may be at checkmate. Unlike the end of the age of the robber barons, when we reformed capitalism in the late 1800s / early 1900s in the US... this time the capitalists have purchased enough politicians to stop reform completely and forever.

"The free exchange of communication and ideas, unrestricted by capitalist interference? Can't have that kind of evil in the world. Surely it's my duty to shut this down, so that others may come to know the flavor of corporate boot leather as well as I have."

Oh, you've got a behavior there, but the wrong motivation.

I sit at home, but I don't sit on public toilets precisely because dudes have been whizzing all over the seat.

If he pronounces no sentence except for sticking the felon branding, then it isn't even a slap on the wrist. It doesn't affect him in any way whatsoever, even after his term is over.

We'll say it again, for the people in the back: it doesn't matter whether you believe in potentially lethal threats or not.

They'll still kill you. And if you ignore them and pretend they don't exist, they'll usually kill you much, much faster than if you were actively trying to mitigate them.

This sounds high to most people, but if the minimum wage had kept up with its inflation-adjusted peak (1968), it'd be somewhere in the range of $31 to $32 an hour right now.

It never caught back up afterward, and has been severely harpooned in the years since, shifting unfathomable quantities of money to the wealthiest people. And it's not just minimum wage workers... when you sink the wage and salary floor, nearly everyone made less than they should have been.

It's pretty amazing that a guy who has picked up several dozen felony charges in the last few months has this little idea of how the legal system works.

If you wanted the younger generation to continue producing workers for the capitalist machine, you should have made sure that potential parents had enough resources to actually maintain a family if they started one.

But yeah, that would have slightly reduced quarterly profits, and we can't have that kind of long-sightedness messing with the short-term returns of our shareholders.

If you land randomly in 1963 and wonder if it's before or after the Kennedy assassination, it's way more likely that it's before, since it happened in late November.
