From my perspective in Canada, there’s nothing the US can do to unfuck this situation.
Let’s say folks unseated Comrade Spraytan somehow and reversed all of his policies. I would still never trust their country again with economic or security dependence in the way that much of the world has enabled in the status quo.
It was the American voters who selected this foolishness, not once but twice. They and their country will not be trusted for a generation or maybe longer. They threw away a very good thing for them because of abject greed, and now it’s gone forever.
You’re goddamn right I’m furious.
And no less furious at the weak-kneed Democrats who do nothing as their own country is ripped from them by a clown. “Oh sorry; we’ll try again in 4 years” they say. Fuck your thoughts and prayers, how about do something. You won’t get a free election in 4 years, dummies.
Oh yeah, I realize you’re super busy and with your sportsball games and your reality TV marathons. Your inaction today will haunt your future.
And no this isn’t a call to action or a cry for help. We’re going to be just fine. You’re the ones who have to live there, and live with yourselves knowing you did nothing.
It’s important to the world to drop the “quietly” bit.
The US administration is behaving erratically and irrationally. This isn’t a punchline to some smug joke, it has important repercussions for world trade and defence needs.
Let’s cut the conspiracy theories about how they are doing this for graft, and the unfounded “4d chess” approaches. Some people in the administration may be trying to steer the government in these ways, but the captain of the ship is an unleashed chaos monkey surrounded by sycophantic yes-men.
The tariffs could double tomorrow or be gone tomorrow. The US could invade Greenland with a military force tomorrow or drop it completely move onto some shiny new idiocy.
We in the rest of the world need to move with urgency in order to be prepared for the worst. This is a tall task, so the longer we keep these admissions quiet the longer we are vulnerable
I’ll beat this drum again: I would fully support a program where we exchange equal numbers of MAGA loyalists in Canada for trained doctors, engineers, and tradespeople looking to escape fascism.
The Americans have already shown interest in this with their idea of importing white South Africans. Is this an impossible idea?
Obligatory reminder that “no special treatment” means you get treated like a Haitian or Mexican or Muslim trying to enter the US. Yes, even a white Canadian.
In no way am i blaming the victim here, but we can learn a lesson from her experience: Don’t go.
Reset your expectations.
Not only is this real, he also went on to say that the threat was only valid if PP didn’t win. This is public record and you can verify with a web search on multiple media outlets.
This is who Danielle Smith pals around with at taxpayer expense.
Everyone makes jokes like it’s funny but it bears repeating in a serious tone.
Trump either is a Russian asset, or has been successfully manipulated by Russian assets for many years. Whichever one it is doesn’t even matter that much because their level of control is so significant.
No, he’s not just “Trump being Trump“ or some coincidence, it’s a specific pattern with a plethora of supporting evidence. This news is an extra grain of sand stacked on mountain. All by itself, the unexplainable appointment of Russian agent Tulsi Gabbard to head of US intelligence should be proof enough.
The rest of the world needs to take this seriously even if the American voters don’t. The evidence demands that countries should stop intelligence cooperation, and should move with haste to remove American equipment from areas of critical infrastructure and national security. Amongst other things.
That’s a big problem and nontrivial to accomplish but we can’t deal with it by laughing and being smug about how dumb Americans are.
No, it doesn’t. There are two important differences.
PP is a devotee of the cult of the free market, that markets are best and all we need to do is remove restrictions on them. Carney believes markets should serve to people, that the end goal isn’t just naked efficiency but they we need market forces directed to get human-centric outcomes.
This is extensively covered in Carney’s 2021 book “Values” which I encourage everyone to read in order to understand the important differences in these approaches. Carney’s approach is an explicit rejection of the idiotic free market cultism of PP and his ilk.
Another critical difference is in competence. Carney is an experienced leader who was so well-regarded in his field that the UK selected him as the first ever non-local to run the Bank of England. Whereas PP can’t even manage to handle questions from friendly press, let alone lead something.
So no, they are not the same. You might still want to prefer an explicitly socialist approach that rejects markets entirely, which is a legitimate perspective for sure. But aside from the revolution party no one is really advocating that at the federal level.
“Our most challenging category to mitigate the threat of retaliatory tariffs is produce where in Canada, in the winter, we do not always have viable alternatives,”
I know it won’t happen overnight but let’s get some Mexican produce lined up for next winter. They are being hit by tariffs too.
And it’s also time for more hothouse produce. Stop exporting our energy to the enemy and use it here to feed ourselves.
Oh my gourd please stop
He is a failed nepo baby whose only successes in life were being a hired hand on a reality tv show and accidentally stumbling into politics via undisguised racism.

Carney is not a stupid man. He knows that Spraytan will not call him.
In the days of the original round of tariffs; our then-PM acted with some degree of panic, flooding Washington and Florida with attempts to negotiate and make an agreement.
Carney is saying that has ended. We aren’t pursuing them, we aren’t playing this game anymore.
Until they respect our sovereignty we will refuse to deal with them. They rip up treaties? Fine. Block trade? Fine. We can respond with policy actions and don’t need to discuss it with them.
If the Americans want to talk about how to stop the trade war escalation or fucking anything else, they permanently cease the 51st state and invasion threats. Period.
You are not dealing with a fool.
Reminder that Americans and their defenders in the CPC will tell you that she did something wrong, and why should she expect special treatment?
And indeed yes, the biggest difference now is that the horrid treatment that minorities have long face is applied to Canadians now. Even conventionally attractive white Canadians.
We liked the special treatment, but the regular treatment was never okay. We should have rejected the special treatment then but we were cowards and getting special treatment felt nice. You can save a few bucks on cheese, after all. The weather was nice.
Because anyone can make a mistake. Marooney did, but I make mistakes sometimes and you could too.
Don’t let this happen to you, do not choose to enter the United States.
They aren’t wrong to be concerned, this absolutely will wreak havoc on their business.
But also we cannot expect that their business in the US was poised to survive regardless. Theirs is the business the Americans are most specifically looking to move to their domestic manufacturing. Bombardier is fucked but they were fucked on November of last year.
So the question is not if we can keep their US contracts up, but what else they can be making with their facilities and workers. Crisis and change can be hard but it can be opportunity too.
Seize the reigns, Bombardier. You’ve got a good seat at the table and can contribute positively towards how we reshape our country’s industry and defence.
This is what happens when people live in bubbles.
The maple maga don’t interact with any Liberals because their toxicity has pushed them away. They don’t get news or media from any sources that don’t tell them what they want to hear.
In the bubble they have created, they don’t hear many voices opposing their worldview and the few that do get through are shut down cold.
Time will tell if PP will stoke those flames after the election like his American president and hero did.
I’m with the 58% who think it’s worth exploring. But we need a lot of time and much deeper ties before we’d jump into eu membership.
I’d love to see us adopt EU standards, to reduce our reliance on the US standards which are increasingly prone to corruption and anti-science manipulations. If a car can be sold in Germany or a drug can be sold in France let’s immediately allow those here too. If a person gets a medical degree in Spain, they can work at a hospital here with just some minimal localization.
It may also be worth exploring pegging the CAD to the euro, again for stability and commerce reasons. This also has significant risks and downsides but it also could insulate us from American chaos somewhat.
There are likely areas in defence where we could cooperate with the EU, with the health of nato being questionable at best.
After all that, let’s talk.
Canada post should be radically expanded, with the express goal of aiding interprovincial trade.
Will it require subsidies? Sure. But facilitating commerce will have a huge trickle-down effect as it would enable smaller businesses to compete at a national scale.
One of the first times I’ve ever believed anything he’s said.
Yes, lil PP, we know that you’d work against our treaty commitments, help burn the planet, and slash govt revenues in order to reward some oil execs.
thanks for using Leebra!
