I am on the same boat. I was on Reddit for close to 10 years, and this encouraged me to look for alternative. And you know what, now after spending few days here on Lemmy, it has started to grow on me. Especially the toxic free environment.

I guess Reddit has already shown hostility towards fediverse in the past. If enough people do it then it just might be that they would not get all at same time and others on Reddit might be able to see and decide on their own what they would like to do.
Hello and welcome. I took over and setup this community, specifically because I have spent close to a decade participating, to guide/help fellow redditors on that sub. I moved to Lemmy and wanted to give other refugees like me a place they can feel home.
Yeap, that is the first thing you do for any privileged account.
Grabbing popcorn 🍿
Ah, you are correct, My coffee hasn't kicked in yet.
You are welcome!
It blocks bunch of JS from being executed, and if it detects XSS, it gives you a popup to inform you.
Hmm, that is the reason you should have addons in your browser to prevent XSS, like uBlock.
Yea, But it doesn't federate with others. Making it unusable for the wider community.
I remember a tool called yakuake I used back in the days.
For gnome it had guake similar to it.
Glad I could help.
You are correct.
And most of the communities on this instance is related to India, so in future this could become dedicated instance. But for now, as you know many are still starting here and still new in learning the ropes. So lets put our efforts to bring all together before we go in that direction.
:)
Yeap, I moved a week before on Lemmy. Took couple of days to figure out how it actually works.
During that time opened a bunch of accounts on different instances.
Now I am on a small instance, which is near my location, so speed is good.
I stopped visiting that place since then. Now I only contribute here. I don't want to give them free labor so that they can make money.
Yeap, I understand what you are referring to. I used to participate there frequently, but when it started happening I kinda moved away from being a participant to just a lurker.
As it goes, you learn from your experience, one thing we are trying our best is, as long as it doesn't break this lemmy instance's rules, we don't interfere.
There should be freedom of speech, as long as its in respectable manner and no personal attacks.
Welcome folks to the Republic of India.
Yeap, and that is why we don't stop you from posting news articles here as well.
Thanks for the suggestions. These are valid points for the moderation. Appreciate your inputs to grow this community.
For any newcomers to fediverse. It takes some time to get oriented and started. During that, initially all joins the same community that is available on the local instance before they get hang of Lemmy.
This nature of fediverse is good, but it also creates multiple communities, thus it disperses out the users.
So the goal is to make this as an official, so that all the dispersed users from other instances have a common community instead of sparsely populated small ones, which in turn limits interactions.
Hope I was able to give you my reasoning behind making this one Official.
And on another note, welcome :)
Hope this gives all of us a common platform to interact with each other more.
Point noted, I will update the sidebar with this info so that it clears doubts.
You are welcome
