The agents could potentially help in more limited roles — like managing lines, directing passengers or helping move people through the checkpoint process — to free up trained TSA officers for critical security functions.

Ah yes, ICE who is famously known for helping people, de-escalating situations and assisting other authorities in performing the job those are trained for.

And in contrast to the avalanche of slop we are currently enduring, the pre-commercialization era of Internet was wild, in a fun way. Yes, we had slop back then too, but it was naïve, gorgeous, hand-crafted slop.

  1. OpenAI has identified that ChatGPT has being used from networks associated with CCP headquarters, and fabricates a plausible story for the press to show how useful their data can be for US military intelligence.

The timing of this news story is too good to not be an attempt to get hold one of those Pentagon contracts Anthropic has been offered (and might lose), with all means necessary.

Regardless of the actual truth, I am just curious about the overall optics of this. Why would OpenAI (implicitly) admit that they are spying on their users, and show that they are willing to share it with the press?

Thing is, as we all know, prototypes rarely make it to the trash bin if managers and product owners have a stake in the project. Which becomes an even bigger problem now that minimal amounts of humans are involved in producing said prototypes.

I had a meeting with a customer who proudly proclaimed they do "full-on agentic coding" at their startup, and one of their developers mentioned their entire codebase has been rewritten three times in the past week before the meeting took place. I do not have high hopes for their project ever being refactored by humans involved in anything else than light UAT before customer demo time.

Remember, kids - all nations with any kind of intelligence agency to speak of have these training programs, some of them are even openly recruiting. They're not just grabbing computer wizards off the street to serve in their cyber warfare armies anymore (even if that does still happen).

But I guess it's more newsworthy to point at your enemies :-)

Also, apparently dual hot-swappable battery laptops have existed...

Indeed, I still hold on to my trusty ThinkPad T420 for that reason (and the excellent Linux support). Two batteries can be used at the same time, one of them hot-swappable.

At a "safe" distance, ensuring others fight their pointless war for them so they can conquer and exploit the region afterwards.

Don't forget all the staged coupes to replace, and simple kidnappings of, country leaders. Sure, it's not assassinations but the end goal is the same. Yank the person(s) in charge, dead or alive.

I keep falling into the same trap as well, when telling people I quit using "social media" but am very much active on social media platforms - just not the ones controlled by big tech.

Maybe we need a shorthand for "profit-driven algorithm-controlled influencer cesspools" so we can separate it from "non-profit decentralized social media platforms" like Lemmy and Mastodon?

At my favorite thai restaurant, they have "thai spicy" variants of some items on the menu. I tried it once and never again; my mouth went numb for hours... I thought I liked spicy food but my respect for what "spicy" means in different cultures solidified!

Another time, at the same restaurant, there was a double date happening at the table next to ours. One macho guy wanted "thai spicy", started sweating and almost threw up at the table, then had the nerve to blame and shout at the waiter although they asked him to confirm he wanted it two times... I've never felt so much second-hand embarassment in my life.

Thank you. I've never read a better description of the feelings I've had the past few years with LLM "booming".

The problem is not when and what it is recording based on how it is configured. The problem is that law enforcement can (by design) use a backdoor and gain access to these cameras for real-time surveillance, at will. Since they have access to the feed, they can also record it all.

Additionally, these cameras get hacked all the times.

The point being - if the cameras are up, they will be abused by others. If you really need cameras, put them inside your house. That way you'll only invade your own privacy, and you won't enable criminals to misuse it for spying on anybody else than yourself.

Well, we still need to survive the war with the Klingons and Vulcans before we form the alliance and implement full-on space communism. But we already know we will, so it's basically just for show.

This.

Join or form mutual aid networks in your local community, share what resources are required to keep on sustainable living while striking, be it food, transport, medicine, housing. Start with your neighbours, or if not viable (due to different opinions on direct action etc.) seek up groups of your peers.

Grind the country to a halt. To you who claim there are no options available: this is an action most people can take if you are willing to give up on luxuries for an uknown period of time - and share what resources you have to help those that are unable to otherwise.

The alternative? An increasing fascist dictatorship state that your kids will have to grow up in, not "the land of the free" you so proudly keep on repeating.

Stay free.
