I was never banned or even warned. Reddit is an American company who is catering to the oligarchy. While before the USA was a seemingly friendly country to other democracies, this is not the case anymore. A majority of their population is either voting for agression or is complicit by inaction. Adding content to USA social media is only increasing their reach. Reddit used to be nice but Lemmy is a better alternative anyway.

I use it frequently and the search is flawed. I literally introduced the name of a bank letter by letter and it would not show any of the 10 bank agencies of that bank that were nearby. Instead of the bank it showed me a water deposit kilometers away. If I partially deleted words, it would show me all the bank instances in the whole country ranked by distance (the correct output).

I really hope you are right. I currently predict some issues with the scalability of the fediverse, maybe due to ignorance. If the majority of people switch their social media to the fediverse, the current volunteer hosted infrastructure will crash. Such infrastructure is not cheap to maintain and donations may dry out at some point. Specially for pixelfed, loops and peertube. The fediverse may run into trouble without easy self-hosting solutions

This may also be a generational thing. In the early 2000s there was a lot of emphasis on using condoms. I don't think the kids in the 2010s and now 2020s are getting the same level of indoctrination.

This is going to kill the content creation industry. Imagine a torrent client that has a built in neural network training module. You are now allowed to access any IP protected content and inspect it on your home TV for dataset building. A balance between communities. There are communities that are very active and fill my feed. Although those community are OK, I am much more interested in some smaller and niche communities. Those get lost in the feed.

When I go to a restaurant, I do not mind that the staff knows me. If I am a regular, I do not mind if they know my favourite dish and ask if I want it or suggest other dish I also may like.

I do mind if the restaurant keeps a note of everything I ever ate and is now sharing that information with dates attached with all restaurants.

What I absolutely dread is if now the restaurant is sending me unwarranted letters with their new menu options.

If institutions are hosting their instance themselves, then they are the verifying authority. It should not be that hard to have a .gov domain for a public institution.

As someone who rode a motorbike, I can tell you people do not see bikers. Car drivers look at motorbikes, but their brain does not acknowledge their existence. An exhaust that is not obnoxious but is still loud-ish is a great safety mechanism.
