They HAD one. The urban e was a great little car and they just didn't do anything with it 🤷‍♂️

"You dont take energy to be around".

Said to me by an extremely introverted person, she often skipped events even with close friends because she would not have the capacity for it.

She told me that she liked having me around because it didn't cost her energy and often would be restorative for her when we would hang out.

I've gotten that a few more times from other people over the years. Feels pretty good.

As always, thank you all for your hard work keeping this place running.

I understand that it might be difficult to arrange more than cash donations, but would you all be interested in hardware of any kind to help support the instance?

Happy to help in any way that I can!

Is it doable? Probably. A quick search shows that your professor processor appears to be an LGA1851 socket type. https://www.newegg.com/p/0SS-0236-01835

This should work, but please verify your own details first!

Otherwise, if you have a chassis in mind already, go for it. If you feel comfortable moving it to actual server-grade hardware, www.labgopher.com (turns out that site is gone, a place called rack rat had taken its place, but I have not used it) can help you find something hopefully very cheap that you could scrap or repurpose.

The biggest advantage with server-grade components is the fans and power supplies are designed with that environment in mind. The 40mm fans in 1u racks are very nearly airplane levels of loud. 20k rpm kind of fans. That's how they solve the airflow problem, they don't have noise rules.

Hope that helps!

It does kind of look like it, we shall see if they can follow through.

Not that I've had much luck with this, but I have tried to explain to customers/managers that the work is like to do is preventative.

Sure it's "expensive" now, but this reduces potential failures AND reduces maintenance time in the future.

This means we spend $ now, but save $$ later 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's a Logitech MX ergo. I switched to it years ago and it helped resolve a bunch of the wrist pain I was having.

Check out creeper world (2, 3, evermore, etc). Sounds similar, although I don't remember if the fog was purple.

I agree with the sentiment here; I wish more companies took design risks.

I would LOVE to get my hands on a Huawei Pura X, but I doubt it will be available outside China, software concerns aside.

Aha! I thought I remembered seeing that post.

I have a bit of an older server which may not be of interest due to the aforementioned power constraints but: Supermicro SYS6037R-TXRF 64GB RAM Dual E5-2640 (ish?)

~8x 3TB SAS 7200 rpm drives

For power/space constraints, would something like the bee-link me pro or similar be of interest?

I wanted one so bad, but I agree price for the range was just abysmal.

I am so glad you had a friend like that.

Somewhere along the way, I found myself collecting friends who didn't seem to "fit in" anywhere else.

Now, more than ever, I try my best to create or hold a space for people to feel welcome and safe.

I hope that you still have the people and space to reliably recharge!

Fleet Commander 🚀

  • Fleet: More than 10 devices · 21–50 TB
  • Motivation: Privacy & data ownership, Learning & experimenting, Fun / the hobby itself
  • My MVPs: Plex, swag, pihole, Navidrome

I realized that I actually have just over 50TB now after replacing a failed hard drive. I've been using retired enterprise hardware and slowly replacing it all with stuff that is MUCH lower power consumption and I recently got a DGX Spark so I could work on some self-hosted ML work for physics modeling and helping me fix all the code I manage to break. The jump cuts after every sentence made this video entirely unpalatable, maybe it's just me.
