I'm wondering how many other airline customers won't even notice this change. Southwest used to be my go-to choice for flying. They had good prices for fares, the open seating was awesome, and the 2 free bags was (many times) the main reason to fly with them.

The decline in the value of a Southwest ticket started a few years ago when you could check in literally 2 seconds and already be in the middle of the B boarding group because the airline would reserve the second half of A group (and possibly the first part of B?) for higher paying fare customers on the same flight. While annoying, Southwest still had the best value.

Since the May 2025 changes eliminating free bags, then the elimination of open seating, Southwest went from the top of my list of air carriers to the absolute bottom. They charge the same (if not more) as better airlines and offer a worse product.

The pool is news because it is a very understandable and approachable subject. Most people believe they could handle a pool, and if it turns out trump can't even manage a pool (with all the power of the government at his disposal), then some of the MAGAs finally start thinking that trump may not be Presidential material.

With the turnover of British MPs, it sometimes take me a bit to learn the new names. "Starmer" took longer for me to learn because whenever I'd read British news, it always looked like a bit of slang for a derisive word instead of a proper noun. When I finally figured out it was the new PM, I thought the word Starmer as a derisive slang was entirely appropriate.

Wasn't it a Pantsir air defense rocket that cause one of the largest explosions of that oil tank where it blew its top? It feels like more Pantsirs in the refinery area would be more dangerous to the refinery and locals that fewer Pantsirs.

If doctors (or pharmacists) want the choice to impose their own religion on their patients, then at minimum need need to disclose that before ever meeting a patient. Additionally it would disqualify them from accepting any patients that are subsidized with taxpayer money.

This could act like the Surgeon General's warning on a pack of cigarettes:

WARNING: this physician acts with their own religion in mind before your well being. This could be a danger to your health.

I like the end result that ISPs are pushing back on this, but don't mistake this for altruism on their part.

Their businesses make money selling internet service. Were they to support cutting off those accused of piracy, they would be losing paying customers. Further, the business processes and support needed for this to function would be massively expensive and complicated. They'd have to hired teams of people and write whole new software applications for maintaining databases of banned users, customer service staff to address and resolve disputes, and so much more.

Lastly, as soon as all of that process would be in place to ban users for piracy accusations, then the next requests would come in for ban criteria in a classic slippery slope:

  • pornography
  • discussions of drugs
  • discussions of politics the party in power doesn't like
  • speaking out against the state
  • communication about assembling
  • discussion on how to emigrate

All the machinery would be in place once the very first ban is approved.

Furthermore, Variety claims that Ellison’s goal is to turn Paramount into a MAGA-friendly environment, with content in the TV and movie divisions expected to be more “America-centric” and geared toward “the middle of the country.”

RIP any future Star Trek property.

In authoritarian regimes it isn't uncommon for the state officers and soldiers to engage in casual theft along side their official duties. With the way our country is going, there is a non-zero chance this was an actual ICE officer just working his "side hustle".

Imagine you are disabled and only have the use of one finger.

How do you press "Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V"?

Stickykeys allows you to use your one functioning finger to press Ctrl then release it, then press C and release it, and you'll have done the equivalent of pressing both at the same time.

Are conservatives activists so concerned with information related to living under Nazism because they don't want young people to be able to recognize the steps if those steps occur to young people today?

This is tragic and sadly entirely predictable given the Texas laws.

A dramatic rise in pregnant women dying in Texas after abortion ban

"From 2019 to 2022, the rate of maternal mortality cases in Texas rose by 56%, compared with just 11% nationwide during the same time period"

If you have a pregnant loved one, get them the hell out of Texas.

Do they? Those at the top of government aren't following the rules anymore. Why should states still be bound to do so?

The real dystopian horror is when these genetics companies start selling to insurance companies. Think about it:

"I'm sorry we aren't covering this cancer claim with our health insurance product because you are genetically predisposed to it"

We need legislation now to prevent genetic discrimination.
