Is there a page where we can see which instances are ban-crazy and which ones actually federate and communicate?

Except instead of Nazis (?!?!) it's corporations.

It's amazing that spez saw what Musk did and thought, "I should do that to Reddit."

Reddit was a living thing. An ecosystem of interaction which was so robust it frequently generated content that was useful in Google search results. The shitposts were essential to that ecosystem. There were also bots, which is inevitable.

That ecosystem has collapsed.

They will start setting standards that other instances will be pressured to follow. Those standards will be mechanisms to control the fediverse and make it a data-gathering ad & sales platform.

I'm in Canada and we just drink the tap water. Some northern and remote native communities have to boil their water and it's considered an embarrassing failure of basic human rights.

I agree.

BUT some degree of infighting means we're alive and engaged with the platform. I think it's healthy infighting.

At this point I only pirate media that I can't find through legit means. I think it's honestly hilarious that they don't just make every movie or album available to purchase and download without DRM, since that would be the best way to combat piracy.

I pay for what I can, but I'm also a big Linux user who loves FOSS software. Adobe can get bent. I use Gimp, Krita, and Audacity/Tenacity.

Microsoft can also get bent.

Reddit became popular through dangerous openness. I resent having some admin curate my experience. Give users more control to curate their own experiences. Stop getting in the way of what I want to read.

I would grudgingly accept having the ability to op-in to "problematic" instances or communities. As long as I'm not denied any functionality. It's an acceptable compromise.

This us exactly the threat. They'll start setting standards that other instances will be pressured to follow. Those standards will be ways to control the fediverse and make it a propietary data-gathering and sales/advertising platform just like everything else.

I barely just started but it feels almost as natural as normal reddit.

Lemmy federates Reddit better than Mastodon federates Twitter. Mastodon is confusing. But on Lemmy I can clearly see the relationship between instances, and I can use it all as one big system.

Right. OP should find a safe space and stop "whining"

I don't believe in a soul that's separate from the body, or that lives on afterward. But the way that "inanimate" matter can spin up thoughts and feelings and a consistent personal experience that can last for decades... It's almost fair to call that thing a soul. It's fair to talk about nurturing your soul and growing a soul.

I'm intrigued by the idea of nomadic communities jumping from platform to platform. Maybe that will become necessary. Each instance might be less stable than the mega-sites we're used to.

I'm socially liberal and economically on the left (as in I like democracy, I accept capitalism, but I want a lot more socialist policies). Downtrodden people should be given assistance, but everyone else should be free to live out their power and ambition unless it gets in other people's way. I'm against most right wing political and social positions. But I'm even more against defederation and mass blocking. I don't want a safe space. There are too many things we need to process with conversation.

Nobody is suggesting that we destroy Threads. We just don't want to let it control the fediverse.
