Ahoy hoy! I'm one of the Redd-fugees, pretty active in r/LateStageCapitalism up until recently, and I hope to get to know some more like-minded people up in this place (as the kids say these days).

I'm also that type of middle aged person that gets more chill about everything as I pile up the years. Well, apart from how much I hate this ever intensifying capitalistic hellscape we find ourselves in.

I use the same username here as I did on Reddit, we'll see if that's a smart move or not. I like the look of things, especially after I found the dark setting for the UI and I can definitely see myself hang out with all you nice people even if, or when, Reddit change their tone. Yeah, as if...

I have looked around, and I see that capitalism doesn't work. That's why I may be a communist.

Since I am a Swedish communist and know plenty of them, I feel it might fall on me to say that you are just being ignorant and judgmental. There has been a fair share of naivety in the ranks of the left wing parties in Sweden, but that was much more notable during the 1970's than it is today. I don't know any communist or socialist in Sweden that argues in such simplistic terms like "not USA is automatically good", that's just an insane claim to make. And while we're at it, most of the western world seem to agree that "not-Russia is automatically good" with all the head-in-the-sand shit the west is pulling over Ukraine. I believe you are touting prejudice against communists, like so many before you have done. It doesn't do anyone any good.

Hey now, don't be mean. This is what a privileged life in Sweden (I assume) does to you. Trust me, I am all but surrounded by these people!

"What, are you a socialist or something, so you want everyone to suffer equally, hehe"

I was so sure it had to be one of my countrymen, but there you go. I guess we all have more in common than we believe, and here I thought I was progressive enough already. Sarcasm (obviously?), but I'm new to Lemmy so I thought I'd make it clear, I'm always a bit paranoid about sarcasm when writing on forums and social media.

Yeah, some people really can't catch a break. The nerve of this idiot, just imagine all the suffering she caused by that sycophantic neoliberal madness she pulled in her lettuce-amount of time in power.

It might be the smallest detail here, but I don't think any communist or socialist ever claimed it was reasonable of feasible that the government should own or run every singe business. It's indeed a confused statement, but it does point to how hard it is to discuss socialism or communism in a world that is so full of the american run western propaganda.

This logic is clearly too advanced for me.

I'm sure history is full of people who all of a sudden was given rights because they were so darn polite, but I can't seem to recall... well, any!

Honestly, what the hell is this person on about, have they any knowledge at all about the civil rights movement?

Not just rape, his first idea was strangulation. I'm so glad I am one of those left-wing extremists that don't fantasize about murdering and raping people. I feel so progressive and woke!

You just forced me to look up what a weeb is. It's always good to learn, but sometimes not a hopeful experience.

Blackrock and Vanguard are well known of course, and I knew that they own a bit of everything and each other, but this is (with the respect to the general air of tin foil hat) really scary stuff.

The TL;DR of it is basically that everything that is worth owning or financially controlling in the world is owned by a single corporate entity that is impossible to fully grasp. So basically Sauron.

It's sad to see how badly the police need more funding, their vehicles braking down en masse like that!

^___^ Some liberal, probably

I'm here as a father of a soon-to-be teenage trans girl. Even though no one in our family every questioned the reality of this journey, I feel the need to educate myself and learn from the stories that people kindly share in places like this.

I can also add that if anyone needs a kind word from a dad, I'm here for you.

I had not seen that quote before, but I love it! It's sad that it's still so relevant.

I've been there, comrade. Maybe not quite that eloquent, but I recognize the self hate. I found help through supportive loved ones and therapy, for whatever it's worth, but I realize that might not be possible for everyone.

We all have a tough road ahead of us when we feel we're circling the drain. I hope you find some help, in what ever form works for you, but don't try at it alone if at all possible.

I love the Fallout universe and crafting in games, so with the amazing mod community I've wasted (?) nearly 6,000 hours on Fallout 4.

I know it's arguably the weakest of Fallout 1-4 and New Vegas, but it became a refuge for me to escape from the real world into.

Considering this particular old English hero would support actual fascists for his fear of Communists, this quote is on par for him. He is truly one of the most misrepresented monsters in history. Yeah, he could drop some nice lines as an orator, but the death-toll in India and Pakistan alone is enough to judge this fucker harshly.
