“God safe us” - irony right there especially when critical of someone else’s use of an acronym perhaps one’s own grasp of the English language should be a little better!!!

God save us ….

Irony?

Since Musk is allegedly about “free speech” - but obviously only if it suits him and your handle isn’t something he wants…

I am an Aerospace Engineer (I was an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer by trade prior to going to University) and I have spent the last 30 years in the airline industry….it isn’t as bad as you are allegedly making it out to be….pilots are not engineers either…..

Experience from the 60’s and 70’s isn’t really relevant to today’s industry- I started in the early 90’s and it’s massively different today from back then….so your point is?

I am also based in Australia so that might also make a bit of a difference because we have had no airline crashes in this country and we have a very strict Potentially Unwanted Parts (PUP’s) system and other checks and balances that because we are under EASA based regulations and not FAA ones (who, by the way allowed the PMA part system….where parts are no longer required to be manufactured by the OEM for aircraft….and I’ve got plenty of stories about that nonsense…)

So yeah…. I quite happily still fly everywhere around the world….

I’m glad I live in Australia where this doesn’t happen thanks to previous attempts by IP copyright holders (mainly US based ones) to have similar policies forced upon ISP’s here and being told by judges here that the penalties and expectations and demands made by these said IP copyright holding companies was over the top and excessive and thrown out of court…..

We get asked for tips here in Australia where we have a minimum wage and no tipping culture - it’s rubbish because we don’t need to subsidise people’s income at all, but the app doesn’t differentiate countries customs it seems. Uber’s apps are the same always asking for tips despite minimum wage….

In regards to that twats tweet regarding the “the Australian people” - as a member of “the Australian people” I want to put it on record that that asshat does not speak for many of us here…..some of us are pleased about this (the ABC app is a far better source of news without the rubbish and downright unintelligent comments that come from posting articles on social media anyway….)

As someone who works in aviation regulations, this just means they have updated the regulations - they have not greenlit any operators or any actual vehicle designs - that is still many years away given that manufacturers and operators would still need to seek approval to actually operate - that’s all still undecided - it’s just the framework is now there where it was not before.

Well that’s nothing new - I worked for them “briefly” (as in weeks - ended up with a better job offer!!) and as an actual aircraft mechanic I was disgusted by what I saw - they had supervising roles filled with non-aircraft trades people, training was done by a former boat mechanic, there were butchers and carpenters - who, if you asked them thought they were far more capable than an aircraft mechanic as, actual aircraft trades are considered “problematic” by Boeing management (who are all ex Toyota staff for the most part…) because - aircraft mechanics are too slow for a production line environment as we tend to take our time too much for their liking (oh because we want to get it right first time?!) 🤦🏼‍♀️

I left and a week later the Max was grounded - the garbage that was spewing from senior management right before the grounding was eye roll inducing - about how they stand by the product bla bla bla and have no idea how shiny new aircraft could just fall out the sky…..of course we know how that turned out for them….

But yeah, Boeing, like Rolls Royce are not the brand a lot of people should think of as “high quality” until they sort their QA shit out and start employing actual aircraft tradespeople and engineeers who know what they are doing 🤷🏼‍♀️

Of course self diagnosis is valid. But you can’t expect everyone to accept it - that’s just life, but people do not have the right to tell you that you are wrong either.

However without a formal diagnosis there are no legal workplace supports, access to certain services (I live in Australia so YMMV) no access to certain medical services and medication and other things that actually require a formal diagnosis.

I am dubious though when people self diagnose but refuse to tell anyone other than the internet about it because they feel they will be discriminated against at work or by their peers…..because for the rest of us who ended up with a formal diagnosis as a child we didn’t get that choice…so in that sense that view is a little bit privileged in that you get a choice many in the rest of the community did not….

Hehe me too!! (First post on Lemmy too…no more lurking since I’ve found “my people”!)

My obsession at the moment is with internet privacy and reducing data available to insidious ad companies….

But my usual staples are always Star Wars (I love it all - don’t get into the arguments/opinions about it either as I just love it all) Cycling (MTB and gravel cycling as well as bike packing) and Aviation/Aerospace (it’s my job too) ☺️

Spotify Premium - because firstly don't care about paying for it as I use it literally every single day and after using it for nearly 10 years the algorithms are perfect when it comes to music recommendations - plus it has a better catalogue as I listen to some pretty obscure non-mainstream dance and jazz/funk music. As for the UI it's fine as I guess I am used to it. As for music sound quality - if I want music sound quality I will listen to my CD collection but for streaming via Bluetooth buds out and about with ANC it's a moot point really....

Guessing some of the commenters have never dealt with Telstra here in Australia - it’s already reported that these telcos just flat out never tested any phone that they haven’t sold - phones that up until now were actually working perfectly fine (and even have the same model handset being sold by Telstra/Optus/Vodaphone etc) suddenly disconnected.

It is purely laziness on the part of Telstra and the rest of them and they are using it as an excuse to get people to buy their handsets instead - have not seen one of the “offers” of zero cost replacements either…..

Telstra are just corporate scum and this could have been handled a whole lot better but then again you only have to look at the shitfight that we have here called the NBN - a national government funded internet network that the telcos will charge you more than the rest of the developed world to access and nowhere near the speeds, level or service or quality as seen in the rest of the world…..

Nobody here in Australia is really surprised this was a massive cock up and anyone who is mustn’t have ever heard of Telstra then…..

One of the nicer things I'm enjoying seeing after moving to Lemmy from Reddit, is seeing posts about the internet of 10, 15 and even 30 years ago and people having the same experience I had as well!

But also being reminded that the internet of today is definitely not how it used to be and finding like minded people who share the same values is something that's sparked my old interest in "being involved" in online communities again.

Huh? I’m an Aussie and the last time I checked we are a seperate country from New Zealand and OUR government basically saw to it that OUR citizen was returned home and unlike this bloke, Assange has hardly had it “easy” living in an embassy or recently jail…..Dotcom has been living large in NZ in comparison…..

There were no back door deals about this guy for Assange - completely different situations….🤦🏼‍♀️

I grew up playing video games in the 80’s - of course I still play video games even though I turned 50 this year.

I swear the younger generations forget gaming has been around for a LONG time long before they were born, also that people don’t change what they enjoy doing just because they get older…..

Well this hits close to home....in a good way I guess....(I mean I was diagnosed 10 years ago and I think the PDA aspect of myself went into overdrive in the opposite direction around "what would the Dr know and I've done just fine for myself until now anyway" - only been the last couple of years I've slowly started to "accept" myself as actually autistic....)

It can be good to challenge authority when it's called for, I mean, I'm the person my friends (nearly all are NT) when they want to know about situations (legal and workplace in particular) and what they can do to fight back.... challenge authority as I am all for it, but it still needs to be done within the bounds of not getting into serious hot water over it as well.

In that sense it has helped me as well. Plenty of situations where they don't expect people to stand up for themselves or understand the laws (which I have used to protect myself over the years in things like real estate leases, employment etc)

But the flip side is challenging every little thing that seems wrong. I have lost count of the amount of times I've been into a HR office for formal counselling over the years because of refusal or being "argumentative" or just flat out "not a good fit for the business"....so yeah like everything it's not a feature it's a bug that probably needs work in my case...but where do you ever start after so many years anyway sigh

We already have this in Australia - my local supermarkets are all using electronic pricing labels - you cannot tell if prices have changed and they can literally change them whilst you are in the store - you cannot even tell when something is on special anymore as the large paper tags you used to see have all gone in the name of “saving the environment” - which is absolute garbage considering we are subjected to a grocery store duopoly in Australia who are renowned for price gouging….
