I've never really followed X (nor Twitter), Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok, etc. so I basically live under a rock. Sometimes I ask dumb questions to try to understand people a little better. Apologies if my questions inadvertently offend anyone. I mean no harm.

Same. Though, I actually appreciate that they could last a year. They go through many thousands of steps, friction, salty sweat, wash cycles, and are made to comfortably fit many shapes and sizes of feet.

I'm sure they could last longer if made from stronger materials, but probably at the cost of comfort and fit.

🤔 This is probably the most I've ever thought about socks

You're not wrong, but neither is the title. That's just how business accounting works. Ultimately, it's still the same conclusion ($8 billion loss)

This is off-topic, but... For some reason, that reminded me of a funny exchange I had with someone who was buying a lottery ticket, years ago...

Me: "What are the chances that you'll win?"

Him, with a heavy southern (US) accent: "50/50. You either win or you don't."

And not the slightest hint of PPE in the image. Such a different time. I don't even spray water-based paints without a mask

Ahh I see. It's like gender reaffirming surgery for a male to become... still male, but "more so".

Thanks for clearing that up. Sometimes I feel like a boomer trying to keep up, lol

Is this a sentence that I might need to understand IRL, or is it just social media stuff?

(I don't know if this question will be offensive, so apologies in advance if so.)

Respect.

I don't share this stance (I prefer open, but it's not a deal breaker if most alternatives are even less open), but I greatly appreciate those who do.

Care to share your mobile OS preferences? I'm test driving GrapheneOS on my old Pixel 7 Pro, but not sure if it can fully replace my daily driver yet.

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm always out of the loop: What exactly did this guy (or kid? He looks like he could be in his teens) do to piss everyone off?

I try not to ask questions that could easily be Googled, but I'd rather not search for "big balls."

This is the first thing I've ever disliked about Switzerland (not that I know a lot about the country).

If only they knew that LLMs would soon take over as the new energy hog in the spotlight

I wonder how long this will last. The NSFW industry is insanely huge. If the current payment processors cut it off, that leaves a giant gap in the market just waiting to get filled (😏).

If they hold firm on this, it might just be a rare opportunity for a new (and hopefully better) payment processor to enter the market.

Or maybe just wider crypto adoption, idk.

iPhones save old notifications in a database? Why?

I assumed it's probably due to some creators becoming, or later being discovered as, "problematic" and/or some sort of brand risk. It would look more strange to unlist a few of them, so better to unlist all of them.

To be clear: This is speculation based on zero information 🙃. Just a total guess based on how things tend to go between internet culture and corporations. I'm probably wrong. It would be cool if YouTube would communicate things like this.

It's unfortunate to see such cultural history hidden away. Though, tbh, this is probably the most that I've ever thought about YouTube Rewind, and I haven't thought about it in many years.

Kinda wild that app stores allow something like that. I wonder how long it'll take for someone to build the same up, but with the roles reversed: Men anonymously talking about local women 😬

Seems like they were operating with a pile of bad practices, then threw AI into the mix.

Neural networks are approximation algorithms. There's a reason LLMs are generally more productive with statically typed languages, TDD, etc. They need those feedback loops and guard rails, or they'll just carry on as if assuming they never make mistakes (which tends to have a compounding effect).

If you want to use AI safely, you should be more defensive about it. It will fuck up; plan accordingly.

I almost agree with this, but I prefer just one more advancement over this: the thermostat kind. I like to just set the temperature so I don't have to keep adjusting it.

Nothing fancy, no touchscreen bs, just simple knobs. I was perfectly happy with the thermostat feature in my old 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.

Well yeah, it's a fridge with a spacious screen and an Internet connection in the 2020s. Of course they'd capitalize on all that advertising real-estate. And of course they'd wait until after people have had them for a while. They're unsurprisingly shameless.

I'd be curious to know what kind of data it's collecting to optimize those ads.

It's really not that complicated. The only other direction to go on I-65 is north.

Interstates with odd numbers run north and south. Even numbers run east and west.
