I think, especially as you get towards "newer" vintage systems, the logical conclusion is the same one he reached - if you want a compact portable and you're okay spending a couple hundred dollars, you're probably going to be better off buying something from the time period than anything new that may be sold at that price point.
I'm not local to midwest.social but I was just thinking of unsubscribing beehaw for a while because of this! It's very reminiscent of the big surge of folks onto Mastodon last year - lots of "Fediverse can't work because it isn't the large corporate entity presently having a meltdown" and every other post is about whatever's going on at Reddit.
Had an electrician go through the entire place when we first bought the house so we could get safe three-prong outlets in place of the two-prong ungrounded outlets that were originally there. Didn't do a full rewire because there's no ceiling access - originally, the only heatsource for the house was electric radiant ceilings, though a couple baseboards were installed at some point after initial construction. The wiring for the sunroom's A/C is run through a conduit on the outside of the house. I replaced the original through-wall unit shortly after we moved in, and I've seen that whole circuit.
What about the interior wall, against what used to be the exterior of the house?
The vote yes signs I've seen suggest the idea is to outright make it impossible to modify the constitution in a bid to fend off the possibility of rebuilding abortion access or introducing new gun control efforts
Funnily enough, some of the conservatives I know personally are planning on voting no out of fear that Issue 1 passing might backfire on them and activate the Dem voter base to the point they'd lose their majority in the state and a potentially useful tool to combat a theoretical Dem majority
1990, so not really 'young' anymore, but we're compatriots in thinking computers older than us are cool. By the first time I touched a computer, the machines I like to tinker with now were very obsolete.
That first computer I touched, by the way? It was a 70s model Apple II.
Just a couple years ago, I could have pointed you in the direction of some really good recyclers that could get you enough parts to build a fun 486 or Socket 5/7-style machine, if you weren't too picky about what you got. Unfortunately now the supply has either dried up or the recyclers think their extreme budget clone parts are solid gold. The only time I find parts now is when I stumble across them at thrift stores or estate sales.
The CEO of the company I work for pushes for that kind of selling. I stopped trying to sell that way after the third or fourth time it left me with either egg on my face or a deal we lost money on because we had to hire a subcontractor.
Had to have a conversation with the CEO about it once, said I figured it was better for us to potentially run out of work and waste payroll than to waste time and payroll trying to do something we knew we couldn't do and have to pay someone else to do it for us, while keeping the liability for ourselves.
Had to hit pause on it this week, but recently I have been working through Final Fantasy IX, the PC remaster on Steam w/ Moguri Mod. Started my playthrough in early September, and I just got the boat and entered the grindy minigame hell portion of the game.
thanks for using Leebra!
