@zero_gravitas This guy has a (long) piece about why it's a stupid thing to do in the way it's being done. https://medium.com/...

Basically 300,000 devices will stop working Monday. And the owners of things like fall emergency panic buttons might not know they don't work until they're needed. Literally could cost lives.

Could also be fun for a lot of Melbourne's MyKi card readers, if they've not managed to swap them all out yet (I did read it wasn't completed yet as they'd not actually got the readers delivered)

@Baku My daughter (5) tried to sell some of her art on the pavement to passers-by.
Clearly a competitor to a multi-billion dollar price-fixing, colluding, un-competitive duopoly.

@Pyr_Pressure @TheLoneMinon Cars are seeming to forget who is in charge.
I've a mate who's just dropped over 100k on a brand new LandCruiser and deliberately went for not the top-spec because it has too many "safety" features. And he's still finding things like it won't drive if a door is open - so no leaning out to reverse his towed caravan. Lane departure assist is ridiculously aggressive (and actually dangerous when towing a big caravan). Dog on the back seats sets the seatbelt alarms off. And way too much other stuff. Some of it can be disabled permanently with the aid of an ODB dongle.
Car makers need to just stop.

@Gorgritch_umie_killa that's a bit confusing in that it talks about #Aldi leading the reduction rate, then plateauing. Surely that indicates they went hard on reducing and now they've slowed because there's not much fat left to trim? Or am I misunderstanding it.

@Davriellelouna I might be missing something, but if the prompts were "draw a _typical_ <thing>" and that's what they got then that makes sense.
The journo is searching for a story. He gave AIs simplistic prompts and got simplistic responses.

@Aussieiuszko My son's school tops are white. White. Who thought white was a good idea for Year 7 boys? Has to go in a bucket of whatever that pink bottle is at end of each day.
And whilst high quality, they are only available from one supplier at stupid prices.
Thankfully they're just starting a 3 year swap over to dark blue.

@BigTrout75 @Squiddork and ffs print out some instructions on how to access it all. And tell someone where you've put that.
Consider using a decent password manager and you'll only need to let your loved ones know how to get into that.

@QueenHawlSera @nightlily pretty sure that you just have to consider reddit as having been very much broken for a number of years now.
They erroneously ban good users and encourage the trolls.
The only way the experience is bearable is just to block idiots yourself and not engage.

@Gorgritch_umie_killa Last I read the limit was going to be 10 guns per licence holder. I'm not a firearm owner but to my ignorant ass, that seems enough. Happy to be educated on why it isn't.

@Dima @morgan_423 Some of them like to put shit like this in their local paper. Just to, y'know, stop themselves looking like complete cookers.

It's a photo of a "Notice" in a local newspaper. Text is the usual batshit crazy bollocks they spout that some other nutjob told them is meaningful legalese. "NOTICE We, “calista” and the living woman calista of the family of “organ” house, hereinafter “we” give notice that we have no voluntary or willing involvement in the use of our proprietary copyright protected name(s) CALISTA MARIE JENKINS BENZ, SAMUAL JAX CRANE(s), JAYN, JARIT, MOLLY BENZ, and all variations however styled, unpunctuated, spelled, abbreviated or otherwise represented since Reconveyance of the allodial fee schedule to Jurisdiction and all four Australias also known as the Commonwealth of Australia RPP44 63900 05100 20060 60600 and of the WA Western Australian Police RPP44 63900 05100 20060 60600, and of JEA RPP44 63900 05100 22885 21604, and others, thus severing all ties with the occupying corporate government of Australia in its entirety; and, we specifically herein said that remedies in said be scheduled by way of one troy ounce pure gold coins ten to the gold price on 21 February 2023 at 2,451AUD/1,690USD equal to 1 troy oz pure gold; and immediately further infringement upon these copyright protected financial instruments and cease and desist all other addressing the sentient beings “calista”, “samual”, “jayrn”, “jarit”, “molly” in fraudulent debased Dog Latin GLOSSA. calista. @MisterFrog @Longmactoppedup “[The original bill] would have put Australia in a leading position to regulate big tech in a way that wasn’t just overly punitive. But then it got gutted six ways to Sunday,”

Wow. Letting Australian politicians near technology has ended in a pointless expensive mess? :blobcatfacepalm:

@Profligate_parasite @thejml #PiHole sits in your network replacing your existing DNS server you may have configured. By using a specified blocklist(s) it's mostly used to block adverts and malware sites. Can be very effectives. Can take a little tinkering, for example one side-effect for me was it blocking a local TV streaming app.
To start with I put one on a free cloud provider, with a VPN from my router to it and played with it until I was happy.

@shirro I can see me having fun in a while. I deliberately gave big G an incorrect birth year for my son so as to get him access to something. Can't remember what. And now that's all in Family Link.
I'm expecting the internet police to come knocking.
