It’s rather interesting here that the board, consisting of a fairly strong scientific presence, and not so much a commercial one, is getting such hate.

People are quick to jump on for profit companies that do everything in their power to earn a buck. Well, here you have a company that fires their CEO for going too much in the direction of earning money.

Yet every one is all up in arms over it. We can’t have the cake and eat it folks.

It’s just the target being dumped. We can’t go 100% renewable and have nuclear. So by expanding nuclear the target has got to go. Renewables will still be expanded in Sweden.

Meanwhile skinny people sponsor fatter ones on a regular buffet… Not sure that’s much better.

Altman went to Microsoft within 48 hours, does anything else really need to be said? Add to that, the fact that basically every news outlet has reported - with difference sources - that he was pushing in exactly in that way. There’s very little to support the fact that reality is different.

Some happy news then, it seems like Memmy is being developed again. Was picked up again 6 days ago. Though, from what it looks like, it’s a rather major rework. So could take some time. But gkasdorf has put in a lot of work.

The protection cited in the article is for buildings. Alright? No one is becoming a militarized surveillance state over buildings being protected by the military.

This is a prime minister wanting to look strong in tough times, not a country becoming a surveillance state.

People keep saying this about Plex, yet I’ve received one pop up about paying them during the last 6 months. That was while I tried to use a pay feature. Not once otherwise.

There are plenty of apps that I can’t use due to their annoyance when you’re in the free tier. Plex have not bothered me in the least.

Why am I not using streamio? Well, we have an Apple TV so that’s tough. Might get something else down the line, but I pirate to save money, not to save money on entertainment and spend it on equipment instead.

100% the other way around for me. My phone is the one thing I own, I use the most. To have a more fluid experience is worth a couple of hundred dollars. The hourly price difference is minuscule.

Imagine if we did this for large companies owned by billionaires. Why is nobody talking about a board of director (Thiel) from Meta literally being one of the top donors for the republicans, supporting many of those congressional candidates that claimed there was voter fraud going on in 2020.

Perhaps we should flock back to Reddit instead, partly owned by a Chinese company. Who also support Russia and deny human rights violations.

Or why not head over to Twitter owned by the worlds richest man using it as is very own playground, supporting Trump and DeSantis, censoring Turkish dissidents and journalists writing about him in negative light.

I mean most top searches are AI generated bullshit nowadays anyway. Adding Reddit to a search is basically the only decent way to get a proper answer. But those answers are not much more reliable than ChatGPT. You have to use the same sort of skepticism and fact checking regardless.

Google has really gotten horrible over the years.

There is no conspiracy. Try teaching paying taxes to someone who won’t have to do it for a couple of years. There’s zero interest.

Instead you’re taught everything you - realistically - should need to know in order to learn by yourself, how to pay taxes.

The wire. Think I started season 1 about 5 times. Then I stuck it out. Hands down the best show I’ve seen.

There will always be loop holes, but then you fix those. And regardless, loop holes are not used by all, and they take time to find. So that’s no reason not to do it.

It’s a nice little thing, but there so much to miss compared to Reddit. Sure, we have memes, technology and news. But there is very little other discussion going on, even for big things like food, sports, finance and relationships (picked some on the top of my mind). Huge communities on Reddit. Barely anything here.

Overall Lemmy is very much a disappointment when it comes to “niche” communities, if you can even call those large subjects that. But it’s even worse for smaller subjects.
