the scarcest resource in open source is not money but the motivation of the maintainers.

Well money would be a huge motivator on its own. Unless his idea of motivation is to bring out the whips..

It depends on the industry but from my experience the c-suite and partner level positions are the "you made it" role and the one right below is the hardest job with all the real hands on work to prove they deserve the promotion.

You sound salty about rice that looks pretty mediocre. I'm not shitting on enjoying mediocre food that only tastes marginally like the name you're claiming it is (I cook worse meals pretty regularly that I enjoy), but I'm not really sure what you expected posting it online. You want your online parents to say they're proud of you?

This works for me too. Being overly analytical about your feelings overlaps a lot with rumination which is like letting the cogs in your brain use up energy to go nowhere (and in my controversial opinion, depression is a core symptom of low energy not a standalone disorder). Practicing mindfulness with gratitude is more grounding to be able to feel your emotions and understand what your body is trying to tell you rather than "analyze" why your body isn't listening to your orders. Regarding the gratitude part, I prefer to do it in nature and feel lucky to be alive to experience its beauty.

I just want to put this here for the defeatists who don't even bother to read the article before commenting:

“When I see people kidnapped by ICE, that affects me, because I know what it’s like to be kidnapped by federal agents,” he says. “It affects me physically, like a burning feeling in my stomach.” He worries about the potential impact on his family, but the price of inaction feels steeper. “My kids are teenagers now. I want to be that example to them that despite threats of retaliation and violence, you’ve still got to stand up and fight back.”

Does Austin find it ironic that the scenarios he worries about so closely mirror what already sent him to federal prison? “Yeah, it brings back a lot of memories,” he says. “When I see them saying, ‘If you track or criticize ICE agents, you’re a domestic terrorist,’ that was the same sentiment when they came after me with RaisetheFist.”

“I’m not looking to get arrested,” he says, nodding toward his front door. “I’m not looking for conflict, but I know conflict is inevitable. To me, what’s more important is being in a fight and using my skill set to contribute something to that fight. Then whatever is going to happen, it’s going to happen.”

This man has been an activist since he was 18. He's been shot by police, monitored, interrogated, put in solitary confinement by the FBI and ultimately thrown the book at for a bogus charge and served a year in jail. He has a family and things to lose, and he's struggling financially to keep this site up. And he still fights.

If you're going to be sitting on your couch afraid to do anything, I'm not judging you, but don't come here and try to persuade others that the fight is already over and we lost.

I feel like the 180 he pulled should be considered a form of fraud and his constituents should have a method to recall and prosecute him for it.

The people talking about political violence are so chronically online and unserious. The real way to "rise up" involves talking to your neighbors and coworkers, forming and supporting unions, monitoring and obstructing fascist goals, etc. Real boring everyday things not superhero movie shit.

It's weird because terminally online people forget that profound autism exists but most irl people I talk to have no concept of autism besides profound autism.

Otoh, I think most people irl and online think of ADHD as quirky distracted ball of energy meanwhile severe ADHD is not actually seen as a disability but a personal failing or mistaken for the classic depression+anxiety combo.

"These users are already familiar with Reddit and we've seen that the experience is much better for them in the app. The app offers a more personalized experience and users can more easily find communities that match their interests."

Lmao. The personalization is exactly what I don't want, so fuck off. Also, it's pretty easy to circumvent. I'm sure there's multiple ways, but I just go to old reddit.

This is amateur work. I've seen someone volunteer to head the staff AI training and in the presentation outline how bad AI is (i.e., terrible for the environment, not reliable, all true things) and also just put out the most half-assed training rollout. It had the effect of half the staff intentionally or unintentionally doing other forms of sabotage.

Can we just take a moment to admire the absurdity of having to even question whether this man is alive or not as if he's the goddamn pope and being alive is the only criteria necessary to keep his position. Being a senator is supposed to be a job with actual duties. Any normal job would have at least put him on a LOA and backfilled his position by now if not fired him.

I want to see us either lean into the absurdity and place polymarket bets on when senators will die (I know this already exists on the dark web but the purpose is to make them see it and sweat) or demand clearer laws/regulations around minimum requirements to hold their position.

Banksy’s lawyer, Mark Stephens, pushed back on the report and said the artist did not accept many parts of the investigation as accurate.

Stephens argued that revealing the artist’s identity would compromise his safety, intrude on his private life, and undermine his ability to work freely.

Reuters said it decided to publish because of what it described as strong public interest in a figure who has had a significant and lasting impact on culture, the art world, and public discourse.

This is why we can't have superheros nice things smh

Yes. That's where the white supremacist eugenics comes in. They literally think they're genetically superior and those they deem inferior should die. That's why too many billionaires have like 10 kids nowadays. It's weird christo-fascist "replacement theory" shit.

According to court records, Moore went to a hospital in December last year with abdominal pain and told medical staff she had taken misoprostol, a drug used in medication abortions, along with oxycodone.

Authorities said medical records estimated Moore was between 22 and 24 weeks pregnant and investigators say the fetus survived for about an hour after delivery at the hospital.

I didn't expect her to be that far along the pregnancy, but regardless, fuck that hospital for snitching on her. Sounds like she got 2 drug charges on top of the bs fetus murder charge too.

Until there are enough grassroots progressive candidates to take over the democratic party the same way the tea party movement took over the republican party, and finally some progressive initiatives can pass into law, such as eliminating FPTP.

Please don't take the "just vote democrats into office" answer to mean "sit tight and do nothing but vote" when voting is really the bare minimum activism you should be doing to preserve a democratic system.

It's concerning that you refuse to take a moment to entertain what kind of propaganda would actively target you. We already know about the well documented disinformation campaign efforts by the Russians to interfere in foreign elections and destabilize the US:

Russian disinformation operations in 2016 targeted the political right and left, including Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, Black Lives Matters activists, and secessionist movements in Texas and California. Bottom line: Russia’s goal was to exacerbate the divisions that already exist in the country to destabilize its democracy.

Propaganda campaigns often work by simply targeting and amplifying existing beliefs, so if you think all white people are transphobic, for example, they feed you more examples of transphobic white people to further entrench you in that belief, eroding your empathy and trust for fellow Americans.

To me, reading about PR campaigns against celebrities was a good way of realizing I have also fallen for propaganda many times in the past, particularly when the "internet" suddenly decides a celebrity is universally loved or hated. Now, you can simply call me stupid for falling for it and move on in your moral superiority, or you could take a second to wonder about all the little, seemingly meaningless, things you've read on the internet that confirmed your beliefs, or fed you negative emotions like outrage and dejection, and you didn't bother to dig into them more deeply to understand why is this being shown to me now? Who benefits from my gut reaction to this and who suffers from it?

The findings suggest that employees with dark traits may be more willing to take on tasks others avoid, so managers see them as useful for work that could harm the manager’s own reputation, such as enacting unpopular policies, disciplining staff or conducting layoffs.

“Throughout history and in organizations, there are people who have to do dirty, bad things that a lot of people don’t want to do, and perhaps dark personalities are better able to do those than those who lack these traits,” he said. “A leader recognizes a place for people who seem to violate conventional norms of what it is to be a good person.”

This explains the big management consulting firms like McKinsey to a T.

"Just try to advocate for yourself," she said. "Stand up for yourself the best that you can … I guess it didn't go great for me, so — have better luck."

That made me chuckle. Yeah pretty much. I've seen a lot of doctors for chronic issues over the years and it's just really hard to know when to be pushy and when to shut up and trust them or give up and just get a second opinion. Although this was pretty blatant negligence. The guy didn't even look at her head ffs.

Imo pasties for smaller boobs, full fitted corsets for bigger boobs. The price difference does make it unfair but at least a properly fitted corset does provide support.
