@piefed.social

We're DECSystem10, though sinza is a convenient singular entity that we tend to use I as. We are a plural collective!

I enjoy retrocomputing and find that NetBSD is awesome! In general I prefer BSD to Linux actually.

I enjoy getting old computers to talk to each other, as well as alternatives to the web where possible like Gopher, Gemini, and Spartan!

Oh I love these kinds of Macbooks. I should hope I can find one of mine with a still working battery and a drive that's inside it.

Oh yeah. That could be related. Can't say I ran into that myself personally, however.

Under normal circumstances, yes, the installer should start on its own.

My first thought is, as I've seen quite a few people do this on Mastodon (and I've done this myself once by accident!), if you had flashed it to a partition rather than the whole disk? (i.e. on Linux flashing to /dev/sdb1 rather than /dev/sdb)

I've also flashed amd64 install media for a machine that would run the i386 port of NetBSD, so pmjv's question is also worth looking into.

Vibe-coders (actually probably will steal "slop kiddies") ruin a good thing yet again.

I turn to retrocomputing to get away from it all because I would expect people in that world to generally agree this is horrible and there's somehow vibe-coding there too. I'm so tired of this.

In our case, it was roleplay rather than draw but definitely very relatable.

Read my post. I said "ruin a good thing" which very much is referring to that.

Some Gemini clients can render images inline. Lagrange does so if you click an image link on a capsule. and there are discussion forums. bbs.geminispace.org immediately came to me, but while searching for that site I found Station .

The creator of Gemini also made a web server that might help you do what you're looking for, or if you want it to be more period accurate to 2004, I am also aware of some projects of maybe that kind of nature.

I guess it just depends on what you want.

That's really cool! I remember watching the first short film from Pixar in an art class when I was in middle school, but I'm pleasantly surprised to find that this was not it!

Definitely a very interesting tech demo, as it were!

Another reason to be happy that my Facebook account got stolen forever ago.

Heading to an auction, same as I do every Saturday. :-)

Last week I did get an old eMachines computer from about 2000 for a pretty good price, so I'm happy as can be.

I should watch the whole presentation when I can.

If OpenBSD were to do this, OpenBSD would be the perfect server operating system for self-hosting internet-facing services.

Definitely an extreme example, but within the last week I had cottage cheese that had a date on the label of 2024. It was kept in a cold part of the fridge the whole time and was not opened until I had it.

Not only was it still good, it was outright the best-tasting cottage cheese I've had.

Ah yeah, this person really isn't impersonating me. They just kinda took over my account and happened to have the same legal name as me so yeah

For context, my legal name (first and last!) is very rare (as in I might be the only one) in the US (where I live), but is very common in a specific country in Europe.

I made my Facebook account when I first entered high school, and I was very security illiterate at the time. So I used the same password everywhere. In that mean time, a security thing happened and people's Facebook passwords got leaked. A couple years later, I found that someone with my legal name in said European country took it over.

Thankfully this person didn't try to take over any of my other accounts, wasn't pretending to be me and was just posting about their life on what was my account, and by the time I was making online purchases, I was fairly educated in password security as well as pretty anti-Facebook because of hearing about shady anti-privacy things they were doing.

Can see how that'd be an absolute nightmare scenario for many others though!

We're a bit late but in addition to what Of the Air said, we also recommend the reading list of the Egg Carton Study Guide , which is basically a list of good resources surrounding the matter!

We have a Windows XP laptop that has Visual Basic 6 on it that some of us plan to use for certain kinds of programming.

Another thing we are looking at is going to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to run Final Cut Studio 3, as we have a boxed copy of it.

We're doing well. We're in the process of switching away from more modern tech and towards older software.

My first thought was something like the RC2014? It uses a z80 (an 8-bit processor that was still in production until very recently iirc) as the processor of choice and I have seen a community for the thing!

They also have a Mastodon presence. That's actually how I first heard of them!

Eh, I hardly used it and the way I look at it, Facebook is getting fed bad information about me.

I view it as passively poisoning their dataset for the past more than ten years 😂
