Right? I want to live in a world where politicians campaign on destroying jobs, not creating them.

Speaking of that, it's been a little while since I've heard anyone claim to be a big "job creator".

"Mountain climbing" is a generic term. It doesn't refer to a specific activity. I've climbed plenty of mountains. Half of them were a nice, leisurely 1-3 hour hike requiring nothing more than a free afternoon, a water bottle and a day pack with a couple snacks.

I'm kind of confused by the responses here. Idk if you guys just need to go outside more, or maybe I'm just spoiled, as at least half of the cities and towns where I'm at have at least one local peak. A lot of them are glorified hills with a good view. Many of them don't even have a view, but it's still fun to go up, be in nature, and see the different habitats, zones, and natural features as you go up. This is a casual activity for a great number of people. Some mountains even have actual paved roads/paths that gently take you up, but I prefer trails, unless I'm on my bike.

"Mountain climbing" doesn't have to equate to Everest/K2/etc. There are a vast number of levels to it. There are still dangers to what I do at my preferred level, but the life-threatening stuff typically only happens on much bigger mountains.

ravelry[dot]com has lots of patterns (free and for sale) which match these. Judging by the age on some of those patterns on that site, this image has made the rounds for years.

Ok, I've got the device inside of me now. (Needed a lot more lube than I thought I would.) What's the next step?

Entertainment budget. Every day I walk down to the tracks, retrieve the smushed penny from yesterday, admire it for a moment and set another one on the rails

Praising windows 10 is just wild. (From someone who experienced 95 onward). I mean, it was alright. I think 7 was my favorite.

Occasionally I'll leave a flippant reply, realize i was being kind of an ass, then delete it because I've realized leaving it up may be doing more harm than good in some way. That's what downvotes are for IMO - it's like the immune system of Lemmy, pruning off the unwanted shit.

I believe, though, that this post is about the phenomenon of people making a post (not just a comment), then the post accumulates hundreds of votes & comments and the creator of that post hits delete for whatever reason. Which sucks because that wipes the post as well as the comments.

This is something that needs to be fixed IMO. One theory is it's done to collect training data, psychological or market research - something along those lines. This is one of those rare places on the web where authentic human responses from a diverse cross-section of people can be harvested. If deletion wipes out all of it, those responses are captured and gone from the internet before too many competing bots and indexers can get to them.

This is the second time I've come across this story.

If you look closely, random people are not being taken aside for being seen with a Pixel as the headline would have you believe.

What is true is that Graphene OS on a Pixel is a popular, easy setup that can't be cracked open with Cellebrite et al., and that makes the piggies very sad. Methinks someone wants readers to fear using Graphene OS.

There's a reason pixels are preferred, it's not some kind of malicious conspiracy. The most common sense reason being that there's a lot of overlap and cross-pollination of devs in the android world. between Google and graphene os in particular.

Pixels are also targeted because it's a mass-produced flagship with decent specs that is the closest thing to being already rooted off the shelf. It's the path of least resistance. Plus the used market is robust. A used carrier unlocked pixel 1 or 2 models behind the latest one can be obtained for several hundred dollars cheaper than it originally retailed for.

It takes effort to support additional brands/models.

Most brands lock their bootloaders and make "owning" the device difficult.
