Sounds reasonably conscientious and professional to me... Just informal. Best combination IMO: Keep me informed, ask me for decisions when necessary, mitigate terror to my dog, talk and behave like a human, make me feel like you know your way around this and have it under control. Perfect service, no notes.

That's pretty cool of you to show up to the conversation in good faith tbh.

If those Joe Rogan fans could read, they would be very upset right now!

EDIT: Oh you know what? I just fact-checked myself and apparently that podcast is no longer Spotify-exclusive as of very recently. I hope you enjoyed the joke anyway.

In astrology, a bunch of trivia about your life factor into your reading... So like basic newspaper horoscopes are just like "which range of dates does your birthday fall into? Oh okay you're a Pisces then, so go read the horoscope for all Pisces..." But if you go to a "real" astrologer for a "real" reading, they wanna know other stuff, including what time you were born, and that'll help personalize the reading.

Mom is making the assumption that the reason for the question is to use her response as input to an astrology reading. Instead of sharing the time of birth, she warns the subject to stay away from "her," the astrologer, who are stereotypically female.

I think that's the difference: Pirate Bay and Silkroad knew they were inherently anti-establishment, but it seems to me that Parler and Gab think of themselves as "alternative establishment" or something.

Pirate Bay was never trying to compete with Netflix or Steam-- it's conceptually very different. But Parler very much wants (wanted?) to just be Twitter but with right-wing politics.

That art style is called "Alegria" or "Corporate Memphis" and it always makes me feel kind of nauseated, even without the cannibalism.

"Legitimate interest" is a concept from GDPR, which is the EU's major legislation around digital rights. "Legitimate interest" is an extremely soft concept that basically says "a company must have some reason that is not obviously bullshit to process your data." That includes advertising. "We need to know your age, gender and city so we can decide what ads to show you" is considered "legitimate interest." See? Soft.

What it doesn't cover is "We just think it's desirable to accumulate as much data as we can about you for no particular reason and maybe we can just sell it one day, idk." That would not be considered "legitimate interest." Similarly, asking for e.g. a user's phone number but having no particular explanation for why you need it would not be "legitimate interest."

So when you see "legitimate interest" cookies as a category, you can interpret that as "cookies that have some purpose-- including advertising-- as opposed to literally no purpose other than superstitious data hoarding." Block them.

Just in case anyone needs to hear it: You can absolutely start things in your 30's and still feel fulfilled by them, even if there's some 16 year old who is better at them. Do them for you, and don't compare yourself to others.

(Also maybe don't make combat sports your thing if you're prone to that)

Sleep is sooo important you guys. And science says exercise is actually really good for you. Make sure to get lots of natural sunlight. Take time for you. Have you considered journaling?

Anyway here's my website and a link to a book that I wrote (digital only). Thanks for the $8000 and have a blessed day!

My favorite was when my new Windows 11 laptop started automatically backing up my files to OneDrive without telling me, then STOPPED LETTING ME SEND AND RECEIVE EMAILS because my OneDrive was full. Full of stuff that I never wanted to back up.

So one of my main email accounts, which I've used within the free tier limits for 20ish years, suddenly went dark because I signed into Windows.

Of course while investigating, the UI offered helpful options like:

  • Pay for more cloud storage

(Not depicted: "Free up some space," "Disable backups")

Epilogue: After several rounds of disabling backups, then deleting the stuff in OneDrive, then Windows deciding that I couldn't have wanted that and backing all my stuff up again anyway, I finally fixed it by deleting some key directories so the backup would just fail.

Disney said late Wednesday that it is “deeply saddened” by the family’s loss but stressed the Irish pub is neither owned nor operated by the company. The company’s stance in the litigation doesn’t affect the plaintiff’s claims against the eatery, it added.

“We are merely defending ourselves against the plaintiff’s attorney’s attempt to include us in their lawsuit against the restaurant,” the company wrote in an emailed statement.

For some reason that word "merely" just gets right under my skin. Like they KNOW it's peak slimy, but they are just trying to do their job, man.

...Which is to protect the company at the expense of anything else: Reason, decency, consumer rights...

I don't understand Jim's deal. He wanted to charge our protagonist MORE money per bulb than he would charge someone buying less garlic? Why?

Was it a deeply shortsighted, cynical attempt to turn a quick buck? Was Jim weirded out by the dynamic forming with TokyoSunbather and was trying to put some distance between them? Was there some sort of subtle dynamic occurring where TokyoSunbather would take the best bulbs and leave only shitty ones behind, and that was causing subsequent customers to perceive Jim's stock as low-quality, thereby negatively affecting his reputation?

I don't understand. Something is missing. TokyoSunbather is either holding something back, or is overlooking a key detail. Either way I want to know. It doesn't make sense. Jim doesn't make sense. What is the missing piece I need to know.
