Someone give it to me straight, what is the endgame of this cat and mouse game? I know yt-dlp and invidious have been quite crafty at adapting to these changes, but the scales seem to be tipping.

It feels like Google will dominate the game into submission the same way it did with AOSP and Chrome. I know I'm being dramatic but it's really starting to feel like we're being cornered into a hopeless situation

Has a comment ever been so close to an eternally echoed prayer as this?

TIL I'm a privacy activist--who can help me get to the ghost mode?
(Do I even want to get there or is that limited to journalists who have entire states trying to unalive them?)

I've been linuxing for almost 15 years, and the first 10 or so I strongly believed it was all files and directories...then I went down the gentoo path and quickly discovered that computers view them as essentially the same thing.

As a 30-year-old trying to break out into a tech career, this is incredibly disheartening.
Really difficult to not give up all hope with headlines like these. How to believe in potentials for opportunities with these barrages of bad news? Where is the hope--Any silver linings at all?

It's easy to do when we're all surrounded constantly by the paradox of money meaning nothing at all, but also the only material thing that dictates the action and activity of everything past and future

Biggest Pill I've had to swallow is that no matter much I love programming and will continue my computer hobbies for life. I will never make a profession out of it. I'm slowly coping with the fact that all my work will ultimately influence very nearly nothing at all...

I'm confused. I thought we were all here because reddit killed 3rd party software such as this? Did the api decision get reversed or something?

I'm not saying it's not worse now, but it's kinda always been a joke even before AI, right? Feels more like AI is just highlighting what everyone was thinking
