In as much as it's working as intended.

I don't have a stance on blind people, but I do think deaf people shouldn't be allowed to drive.
Part of that belief is the obvious practicality: not being able to hear sirens or honks mean they're likely slower to react in an emergency situation.
But I lived near a deaf college for a few years, where I learned the real terror: deaf people will talk to their passengers while driving. In a language that is entirely visual and mostly dexterous. So drivers are taking both hands off the wheel to gesture, then taking both eyes off the road to get a response. The number of near-misses I've had with deaf drivers is harrowing.
incredible, gutwrenching performances and they were driven by their mistreatment and pain.
I'm reminded of the supposed exchange between Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier on the set of Marathon Man. Supposedly Hoffman stayed up for three days straight to get into the physical and emotional space of his character, and Olivier criticized the choice by saying, "My dear boy, why don't you just try acting?"
Actors are trained to deliver performances. Their job is to believably convey emotions. If the director can only get the performance he wants by abusing his cast, he's a horrible communicator and has no business in the director's chair.
Alternatively, if we believe actors need real experience and emotional depth to draw on for a performance, we should get rid of stunt doubles and special effects. How can I believe Hayden Christensen's pain at the end of Revenge of the Sith if he actually still has all his limbs?
I used to work for a ski shop. Almost everyone would get laid off in March, rehired in August, and collect seasonal unemployment between. The owner would argue that he doesn't give sick time or PTO because everyone already got four months off paid vacation per year.
I did a 100ft free fall into a net once. When the adrenaline is going, you have plenty of time to think about it. Mathematically, I know the drop took about 2.5 seconds, but it felt like a full two minutes. My perception of it was 30 seconds of "Wow, this view is really nice" and 90 seconds of "What the fuck? Where's the net? Why am I still falling? What the fuck?!"
So, yeah, she probably had plenty of time to panic.
Every single millennial homeowner I know managed to get their house one of two ways: get married in 2008 to a Gen-X doctor who can afford to buy a foreclosure when the market tanked, or get massive financial help from their parents.
That's it. Those are the options. And unless you've got a time machine, I think the first one is off the table by now.
In this particular case a starter home is specifically an average of the bottom third of the housing market. Zillow recently reported that, using that as the metric, 242 American cities now have starter homes costing one million dollars.
The nationwide average for a starter home is about $200k, which is still a lot, but not the huge figure that's been making the news this week.
Bubba Ho-Tep is the winner for me. Elvis, still alive and kicking in a retirement home, needs to team up with JFK (who the CIA dyed black) to stop an Egyptian mummy that is eating the souls of the elderly.
I knew exactly what I was in for, and I had an absolute blast. I took my father with me, and his response was, "What the hell did I just watch?"
Still wish we'd actually gotten the prequel Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires.
LinkedIn got me into my current company about four years ago. I've snagged one or two interviews with it since then.
In my experience, it's only really used by recruiters for Fortune 500 companies looking for specialists.
My workplace has a corporate-sponsored advocacy network. Basically, they organize little fundraisers and events throughout the year, and march in the pride parade while wearing the company logo. It's... fine, I guess. Certainly the most inclusive gesture of any company I've ever worked for. But the entire network is straight, white women who identify as allies.
I tried going to a few events when I first joined the company, but it's real weird being the only queer person at the Lunchtime Dance Party Charity Fundraiser. Like, they didn't even play any Kylie Minogue. WTF?
Anecdotally, my job trained every office employee on AI tools back in March, encouraging everyone to think of ways to incorporate the tools into their standard work. As of last week, they're asking us to get prior authorization to use their AI portal as a way to limit requests.
So some Fortune 500s must be feeling the squeeze on AI.
It's in part because Biden ran on opposing fascism, got elected, and then did nothing to oppose fascism. He sold himself as a dragonslayer, but once he got in, he didn't want to upset the pro-dragon crowd.
So, yeah, when his protege ran the exact same campaign, it didn't instill a lot of confidence.
Not just Israel. He's also here for the Baileys!

Schumer has long claimed that his political decisions are guided by an imaginary middle-class couple, Joe and Eileen Bailey (initially O'Reilly), swing voters living in the Long Island suburb of Massapequa
