Because the main reason I'm self-hosting is to have control over my data. This includes a lot of metadata about my infra/services/devices which Tailscale is uploading all the time to their servers. Besides that, they're on the Enshitification road, which made me to search for 100% self-hosted alternatives. And yes, I'm going for EU based companies when it's a viable option.

Hi,

I'm using Actual Budget and I connected my company's bank account (wich is on someone's name) with it to sync all transactions.

From a privacy perspective, I share your concerns. This was the reason I haven't connected any of my personal accounts.

The sync in itself is useful, but if you're making a routine to add an entry in Actual everytime you're making a purchase, you'll get the most of it without trading your privacy.

You can also use your own Google account in Aurora store.

The last commit was 5 years ago. There are very high chances the container image is full of vulnerabilities. You might wanna rebuild it yourself.

After a loot of research and testing different tools (Briar, Jami, Simplex, Session), I ended up using XMPP (Snikket). The call quality is good, has E2EE, Self-hosteable

Edit: fixed a typo

Have you done it? I'm interested in this. Any tips and tricks? Maybe you kept some notes?

Thanks!

I've been using it for more than a year to communicate with my family and a very small group of friends. The video and audio call features are good and I've replaced phone calls and Signal/WhatsApp with it. Because it's XMPP, there are many clients you can use, not just the Snikket app. Overall, I recommend it because of the End2End Encryption features and self-hostable (if that's a term)

You/users have a choise. Use privacy invasive chat apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, etc for free or invest some time and/or money to self-host it or use their SaaS option. Either way, you're far better than using WhatsApp. Signal is a very good option.

If you "don't care about privacy because if have nothing to hide", I recommend reading Means of Control by Byron Tau or just watch what ICE is doing with all the data Palantir is offering.

I really wanted to keep it after deciding to switch from Tailscale, but it's mobile app is draining my phone's battery. It also disconnects without automatically reconnect. Now, I'm in the process of setting OpenZiti up.

How's your experience with NetBird's mobile app?

If privacy is important for you, https://anytype.io/ has E2EE (End-to-End Encryption). You can run your sync nodes also. Personally, I've used Roam Research, Doom Emacs, moved to Logseq, then Obsidian, back to Logseq and now I'm using Anytype for two years.

Edit (hit post by mistake): The encryption part was not a must for me also, but then I started using my notes in my work laptop also and I didn't want my notes stored in plain text on a computer which is not fully controlled by me. I'm mentioning it because over time you'll have many, many notes and the transition from one tool to the other is very time consuming.

I'm syncing Spotify playlists with Lidarr and play my music in Jellyfin or Symfonium.

I tried so many and I find NewsBlur the best one because of its options to train based on specific tags coupled with Focus reading. Sooner or later you'll get flooded with articles without these features. I also like reading the articles distraction free. (it pull the content of the article in the app)

1.Change broswer - Brave was recommended; she's using Zen (a Firefox fork). Personally, I recommend LibreWolf 2. Search engine - DuckDuckGo recommend; she's self-hosting SearchNGX 3. Email - Proton 4. OS - Linux

Not sure I missed something. I fast forwarded

I see you've got some downvotes, but without anyone suggesting a solution.

You can add the mount points in the docker compose file and then configure Jellyfin to read from the path(s) mounted in the container (/media/movies)

Eg:

volumes:
  # local path : path in container
  - /mnt/storage/media/movies:/media/movies

A mobile app would be nice for CryptPad otherwise, it does the job.

Check Feishin. It works great with both Jellyfin and Navidrome.

I'm actually paying a yearly subscription to support the project. I have the self-hosting task in my backlog, but I keep dragging it šŸ˜¶ā€šŸŒ«ļø
