You lost me at calling ExpressVPN the gold standard. Even their audit is bs. KPMG is the same company that provides the "always-on" to PureVPN.

Not as bad a taste as the French government is giving me.

If its do I trust GOS or a confirmed pro chat control governments side of the story, its an easy choice.

Its a bit odd to see an employee of a company that has always had a terrible privacy policy now be suddenly alarmed.

Too bad, as a Linux user their repacks always seemed to work better for me then FitGirls. OTOH I have always hated all the third party link providers used, that were constantly trying to trick users into downloading malware.

Best of luck to them in the future.

DDG is more of a privacy frontend for Bing then its own search engine. Typically if its not on Bing its not gonna be on DDG.

Works on both Brave and Google via Mullvad Leta

Have you actually asked proton support about this issue, if so what have they said?

It seems like you got frustrated and instead of trying to get help you decided to complain on lemmy.

I think its great that Europe is looking to rely less on US tech but nothing about whats going on with Europe (especially within the EU) makes me think privacy is a focus.

It is pretty much always more dangerous to not update. The internet is an extremely hostile environment (from a security perspective). You really should avoid having devices that are not updated or EOL connected to it.

My guess is that whatever VPN server your connected to had someone else who was spamming or doing something else they weren't supposed to. This caused the email addresses associated with that IP to be flagged.

One of the drawbacks to a VPN is you share your IP with strangers who sometimes do stuff you get penalized for.

Lol Meta literally torrented 81 TB of data from the site. Stop with this "degrees of compression" bs

Don't bring data you are not ok with a foreign government forcing you to handover. That's the simplest solution.

Back all your important data up, then wipe your phone before you go. Same with the laptop. You can't be coerced into giving something you don't have.

Threat modeling is important. If your just an average Joe being a tourist it is highly unlikely the Chinese government is going to take your devices to search.

Windows forcing users to have to pay extra for what should be default security features has always been an awful practice.

Are you data hoarding? The easiest way to save money on drive space is to get rid of media you aren't watching or games you aren't playing

This seems like it can be easily avoided by just downloading the drivers without using the nvidia app.

I wouldn't trust it. It's using a ton of marketing jargon such as "military grade encryption" to make you think its doing more then it is.

This is not providing anything that more proven services already provide.

Based on basic security principles. There is not a real security expert out there that would ever tell you to not update. Leaving a backdoor in your network as a "honeypot" is an absolutely awful idea.

You are also conflating security updates with feature updates. Please take a look at the different terminology.

https://learn.microsoft.com/...

Anyway if you really hate all the bloat of Windows there is a wide variety of other operating systems to choose from that also offer security updates.

This seems like a bad faith argument, the crack is basically installing a rootkit in your system. Its fair to assume a lot of casual users will be as ignorant as you are about the security issues and not re-enable the features.

If you truly can't see why that might be worse then DRM installed in a game your a fool.
