Generative AI is as much of a "de-skiller" as photography is to a painter. You can make the same argument how anyone would rather take a picture instead of drawing whatever they need by hand. This reminds me of an issue that has been happening with airplane pilots.
You see, airplanes have become so advanced that they basically fly all on their own, a pilot only interferes where really needed with manual controls. Now, if the pilot just relies on the automation, his skills will eventually deteriorate and he might not succeed when his input is needed. The answer, of course, wasn't to get rid of automation, but to have the pilot periodically train his skills with simulations.
Technology "de-skills" you only as much as you allow it to.
