"For Pixel Phones". So it's a hardware thing... for now.
@lemmy.world
there's a pretty simple solution IMHO. The faker python library is awesome at generating test data. Return a random dob everytime a site requests it.
import faker
faker fake
return fake.date_of_birth(minimum_age=18, maximum_age=90)
It's a modern thing. Basically it's all just commercialization. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/...
While your ISP can't see everything, they can see metadata. They can see which websites you go to, which social media you use the most, where you bank, where you shop, etc. How much do you think it would take for your ISP to sell that data? If you happen to live somewhere there are laws againat that, you are slightly less at risk. Fines are only a deterrant if they're more than what's being offered for your data.
That being said, this only protects you against your ISP or other purely ipaddress based info gatherers. Apps/social media/websites don't purely use ipaddresses to track you.
Funny thing about linux, is it's unenforceable. Even if you get the big distros like ubuntu onboard, someone will make FUbuntu. Even if you get the age crap into the kernel, someone will make FUKernel without it.
That's the beauty of FOSS. Even if someone doesn't make those things, I can. There are tons of guides on how to compile your own linux kernel and make your own linux distro.
Plus, who's age are they going to use for the root user on 99% of the servers in the world?
5mins after a solution is proposed, some 16yr old is going to vibe-code a stub that whenever queried will return the age of 67.
It takes two
split fiction
These two were the top two favs of my wife and I last year. Played it takes two on our steam decks, and split fiction on our PCs. One of them is older and handled it great. Both pcs run linux.
It's likely just a bot. It's a common tactic to claim an identity of authority and then make a statement. Almost always bots.
"I'm a liberal and I can't stand x, so I'm voting for Republican!"
"I'm a doctor and because of x I don't recommend to my patients to do y."
They're trying to steer public opinion with these posts. Some try to get fancy and use LLMs to make them so they're not all identical. And so you get rediculous statements like the above. No human would vote for someone who killed their husband. Hence the disgusted reaction.
Fascinating that the browser using so much RAM is the OS's fault, not the browser's. Though, it using more RAM could be considered a good thing if it sped up page loading, but apparently that's not the case with Win11.
