My mother.
She was returning something on a slow night at Best Buy.
We did not make it past the tween greeter at the front door before she unleashed!
Mom went off. The way she was talking, you would think he, personally, did something to harm her. This kid was standing there, shrinking away, with what looked like his girlfriend standing next to him. He was a door greeter, had no control or decisive role in any way.
Of course, she called a manager.
I feel real bad for that kid but love embarrassing my mother by recounting that true tale to others.
I'll pause now
I've never heard of an archaeologist too scared of a new endeavor. (I have no friends and fewer archeologist friends.)
He'll probably get some total write-off when it fails and get $44B returned to him (from the tax payers, of course)
'contextual knowledge'
this gem was put forward in all seriousness when the data didn't support the claims in the report: "it's not in the numbers, but we have a pretty good sense that this is true"
I thought a 'concierge program' was similar to OneMedical. You pay an annual fee, have a PCP, but the PCP doesn't typically do much besides refer you to specialists, give advice, or prescribe meds.
I wouldn't be so quick to donate to CCDH.
Mike Masnick over at Techdirt has thoughts I found interesting. (and here)
dear god, how else do you wipe your butt?
I just wanted to support the moderators who the Reddit CEO, et al, treated SO disrespectfully considering the amount of free labor moderators gave and the amount of grief they had to deal with.
I didn't even know about 3rd party apps before this all went down. I just used Reddit (for 11+ years) on my laptop, never on my phone.
No, Reddit's not going to disappear right away, but without the moderators and users, quality content will.
Edit to say: 1st post on Lemmy!
Wow, that's great! Thanks for sharing
I agree with you, but What action(s) are you taking? I'm not an admin/moderator. I don't want Meta (or Twitter or Tik-Tok) influencing this new space, as it grows, to the degree possible. I'll keep exploring, just not sure what controls I have over the situation.
First week here at Lemmy and kbin; still figuring things out. I DO NOT want a relationship with Meta and hope to minimize, if not eliminate, the amount of data they have on me.
Never joined Facebook, Insta, Twitter, Tik-Tok, any of it, as they each were creepy. Reddit was my only thing and then this year happened.
I have 715 books with about 20 others I couldn't find OCLC records for and haven't set aside the time to catalog by hand.
I wonder where the 1000 number comes from but that's been my goal as well, until it gets pushed to 1500 or 2000 (HA!)
Why can't uBlock Origin and this thing work at the same time?
Felt a jiggle in SF
Countdown to a certain segment of white Americans saying they are the oppressed minority, need their guns to fend off the 'colored majority,' and need food stamps.... (I think this is already happening with some religious groups) (I'm white - but I do not hold these beliefs!)
I sit. I close my eyes and tilt my head up, letting the drops fill my ears
This https://redditmigration.com/ seems to be a crosswalk for subreddits on Lemmy/kbin. I don't know if it's maintained, but you might find something to help.
I found that crosswalk here.
