Yeah, you're not wrong that the article kinda sets itself up for the "lookit our recommended VPNs" pitch.

There's no way Microsoft would purposefully disable VPNs from working. I can guarantee that they require VPNs for thousands of roles in the company, let alone breaking it for government agencies that require VPNs, etc.

It is good to know that a specific update can break something ahead of time, though. Then at least you can avoid it.

With you there. The workload on developers is reduced with these features, to a degree. But, instead of saved effort then getting directed to working on gameplay mechanics and such, to me it feels like many devs just see it as time/money saved, producing a game that looks and plays like one from 10 years ago, but runs like it's cutting edge.

For instance, Abiotic Factor. That game on my RX 6800 XT runs at 40-50fps when at 100% resolution scaling at 1440p. Why? It's got the fidelity of Half Life 1, why does it need temporal upscaling to run better? (I adore that game btw, Abiotic Factor is so much fun and worth getting even if playing alone!)

Not saying that's how every dev is, I know there are plenty of games coming out nowadays that look and run great with creators that care. Just feels like there are too many games that rely on these machine learning based features too heavily, resulting in blurriness, smearing, shimmering, on top of poorer performance.

Just hoping the expectation that something like an RTX 4090 does not become the default cost-of-entry in order to play PC games because of this. It would be unfortunate for the ability of game developers to create and tune by-hand to become a lost art.

I personally don't see the point.

Princess Mononoke is a beautiful film. It's one of the Ghibli films that's transcended being dismissed by friends and family that don't like animated media, let alone anime. Good choice!

Mine is Porco Rosso. The setting and characters (like all Ghibli movies lol) make me feel so comfortable. It's fun and exciting, with a lot of small, genuine moments. Plus, the airplanes and idea of sky pirates is rad.

There's a game being worked on called The Brew Barons that's pretty much "Porco Rosso: The Game", and I'm friggin stoked for it.

While I do agree that it's disappointing that the game is available on Epic and not Steam (and Tim Sweeney is an assface for shitting on Linux), I'm of the opinion that this situation isn't one that should warrant boycotting. I think being able to buy directly from the developers and have a maximum percentage of the revenue go straight to the studio is the best case.

It's an inconvenience to have to manually add the game to the launcher/platform of choice, but it's such a minor inconvenience to deal with given the outcome.

I understand and sympathize with the principle your expressing. However, I think it's important to be open-minded and ultimately in support of the devs themselves over the platforms that distribute their game.

I always wished I had a setup like this back in the LAN party days.

I never did like using RetroArch. I always thought it was overly convoluted. Also whenever I looked something up I was trying to figure out, a lot of the explanations I'd find would be oddly rude and off-putting.

If the things you've mentioned are true, then it kinda makes sense.

I took my living room rug out and beat it for the first time today, after vaccuming it for about 20 minutes.

I was in the middle of doing the dishes.

10-keyless keyboards are (kinda unfortunately IMO) popular with the custom keyboard crowd. I'm actually a little surprised that it's not available in an even smaller form-factor.

You and andobando make good points. It's fun because I noticed myself paying a lot more to usernames since I've started using Lemmy. Maybe it's because of how people are engaging with it, I'm not sure, but it totally does feel like I'm actually engaging with multiple individuals here as opposed to some vague entity.

That sounds about right, haha! I've done the same, and then found myself in the attic trying to draw more Ethernet.

There are configuration files for dnf in /etc/dnf/protected.d that might have gnome-shell listed. Check that directory for a file called gnome-shell.conf. If there is, you can simply rm it and try removing gnome-shell again.

Be aware that there might be packages you have installed that depend on gnome-shell, so be sure to double check the list of dependent packages that will also be removed.

If I've got someone else that's also into it and frequently wants to do it together, then it's waaay easier for me to continue it. Kinda sucks cause it makes me feel like I'm putting the onus on others to keep me involved. I swear I'm not doing that on purpose!

It's probably a little harder for people with ADHD to stick with something through the lulls because we don't have that intrinsic motivation driving us to be able to experience that delayed gratification.

When trying to build a routine or a habit, it's like clearing a path through a forest and building a trail. It takes everyone dedication and effort. But for a lot of people (not everyone) with ADHD, it's probably more like a thick-ass jungle. I can do it, too, and it's gonna be a strugglebus. But once it's cleared and the pavement is down, consistent foot traffic is usually all that's needed to keep it clear.

Maybe they were putting their hair up? Or taking a sweatshirt off? Or they were headbanging really hard. Or they're not bifocals and are nearsided?

You're totally right. I'm just being difficult.

Oh my god, your hair is amazing! Haha, wow! I wore my hair short for most of my life and never learned how to take care of my curls. I've been letting it get long, and holy moly, it's really helped me appreciate how much care and effort people put into their hair when it looks good.

It sounds like you cut your hair and started taking better care of it after. Did you stop blow drying? Do you use anything special for drying it, or put anything in it to help it out?

I actually don't understand the hate Sweet Baby gets. The most I've been able to understand about it is that they use inclusive language or something.

Is that honestly it? Because that seems like a lot of wasted effort spent hating something pretty dang benign...
