That's what this is all about. Nobody's trying to change spez's mind. A lot of people were begging for a Reddit alternative for YEARS, now we finally have an opportunity to make one. They could roll back the API pricing tomorrow but for me it wouldn't matter.

#1 rule on the internet: don't feed the trolls. Downvote them, block them, move on. They're not here to engage in good faith.

Reddit is now filled with a bunch of people saying "we don't even NEED mods! they just make everything worse!", because this is apparently their first time on the Internet.

The end of Reddit as a place where anyone interesting hangs out. Reddit will continue on as the Facebook of 2023.

I’d say 1st round draft, but I think Russia already did that…

I check in every once in a while, at least until Apollo stops working. I mostly just stick to giving people Reddit alternatives or explaining the federated internet so people aren't scared of such a simple thing.

Selfishly I just didn't want to use the Official App with ads. But once there's a viable alternative to Reddit, and it's actually better than Reddit, why would I go back? "hurr durr cause I can get a thousand updoots on my post". Who cares? It's about the quality of engagement. I was surprised how many people unironically care about their internet points and tie their identity up with a website.

In addition to the other replies you got, if you're interested there's a book called It Came From Something Awful that explains a lot of internet history.

Hey wait I’ve seen this one before!

“ The dotcom bubble burst when capital began to dry up. In the years preceding the bubble, record-low interest rates, the adoption of the Internet, and interest in technology companies allowed capital to flow freely, especially to startup companies that had no track record of success.”

True but the government can take legislative measures that would decrease inflation, and so it wouldn't be necessary to raise rates.

I’m glad to see the CRA trying to be aggressive. Good business has nothing to hide. Other than the administrative headache, businesses should not fear being audited.

I agree, but I struggle to put my finger on why. Is it their refusal to use any other words for Truman or The Truman Show? That read as really repetitive to me.

Although a little outdated being from Nov 2022, Statistics Canada has a great breakdown of what contributes to the rising costs of food beyond transportation costs.

I'm not saying corporate profit-taking isn't affecting prices or that we shouldn't do anything about it, just that there's a lot going on here. Last time I looked Loblaw's profit margin had increased from 2% to 3% from 2020-2023. A 50% increase is a lot and I think they're scum for doing that, but it doesn't explain the overall ~30% increase in food prices.

To that point I respect you showing up here to voice an opinion you knew would be received poorly.

Sorry I don't follow Overwatch. Last I heard they scrapped the PvE part of the game?

Reddit probably won’t die. I mean Facebook is still one of (the?) most popular social media sites. Not that anyone of interest makes it their main platform.

low quality subreddits

Those low quality CS subreddits have always existed, and maybe even predate r/GlobalOffensive. The people who moderate the sub are the ones who made and maintained GlobalOffensive as a high quality sub. If they are willing to blow it all up and suggest an alternative, then I am at least willing to give it a chance. Frankly the API changes don't impact me that much, but there's more than a few people that were looking for a reason to leave a platform that they believed has been in decline for a long time.

The people running r/GlobalOffensive were, by and large, really good. The people running Reddit are, by and large, fucking morons. I don't know how a company that aggregates links and text comments could possibly need $1B+ in funding. It didn't need to host video or images, or be a centralized publicly traded company, or the next trillion dollar tech baby. But they put themselves in that position because: they're fucking morons. The bill came due on that VC funding and now they are fucked and trying to monetize in shit ways. I'm not interested in sticking around for it.

TL;DR:
Moses - Liquid leaving NA sucks, but the players they're bringing in are good and have promise. Not a top ten team on paper, but mentioned Daps' track record on scouting talent and putting together teams.

Launders - Felt it was "traitorous" and a "huge mismanagement" of Liquid's brand. Not very optimistic about the team's future in the more competitive EU region

Maniac - Worries about Yekindar and Patsi role overlap. Regards Yekindar IGL with suspicion. Would be "surprised to see the team punch above the top eight"

Everyone started their response with what a blow this is to the NA region. Reasonable takes all around, I think.

Zedtronic - Sad to see Liquid go. Still a NAFFER, but Liquid wont be my home team anymore. EG then coL, if we go on nationality. Hoping CS2 saves NA CS.

I disagree and hope we get the CS Match Bot up and running here. I seem to recall reading that when the kbin API is updated it can be ported over.

Other CS subs that were less eSport focused appeared decidedly less “quality” to me.

And here I was saying how after NIP, AleksiB's stock must be at an all-time low. Navi has been stuck without an IGL for a long time, hope it works out for everyone.

Complexity is probably real happy with a reason to stay in EU for another event. Get some reps in. I'm keeping my expectations reasonable, they're gonna win it all babyyyy lets go coL!
