Just for some comparison, wireless Xbox 360 controllers sold in 2006 for US $50, PS3 controllers slightly more, and Wiimotes as low as US $40 (without nunchuck/motionplus).

PS4 controllers were $60, Xbox One controllers were slightly less, and Switch pro controllers were $50 (more comparable than comparing to Joycons).

Now Dualsense controllers for PS5 are $75, Xbox Series controllers are $65, and Switch 2 pro controllers are $90(!!).

US $1 in 2006 is the equivalent of $1.60 today when adjusted for inflation, so that $50 Xbox 360 controller at launch would come to $80 now. Not that those figures necessarily translate into buying power, but it does seem that (Nintendo aside), the price is keeping pace or just shy of inflation.

Nintendo's sharp jump from the cheapest to most expensive option is likely factoring in inflation with anticipated tariff adjustments during the console's launch...which they'll never walk back even with the scary numbers gone.

Just to add on this, Rand goes as far as to associate wealth with social merit. As in, the richest among us are rich because they deserve to be, given their inherent superiority. And conversely, if you're poor, it's because you deserve to be poor. You don't have the go-getter mindset of a real entrepreneur. Blaming other circumstances is just making excuses for personal failure.

And anyone who would support things like "tax the billionaires more" or "maybe this industry needs regulations" are subhuman leeches trying to siphon away the genius of wealthy industrialists, who are the only heroes in this world trying to make it a better place (for those who deserve it). Ayn Rand is partly why there are people today who unironically think "I'd be leading my own colony on Mars by now, if only people would leave Elon Musk alone and let him do what he wants."

So what's stopping me from using OBS as a virtual camera and feeding it a stream of stock footage of someone waving their hand?

And there is an argument to be said for the economics of a centralized source of food versus distributed ones. Cost of labor and profit margins aside, cooking food in bulk for more people in one place uses fewer resources than that number of people buying food themselves from a store and cooking at home. And sure, restaurants have a lot of food waste, but I can guarantee supermarkets waste a lot more.

Everything is cheaper in Japan. Internet, phone service, subscriptions, food, rent. Embrace the lower cost of living while you have it.

Also, why is ad free Amazon expensive in the US while in Japan that is closely priced the same as an onigiri for 400 yen at a konbini.

The "official" price of the ad-free tier is just US $4.99, but you also need an Amazon Prime subscription in the first place to be able to stream, so it's the combined price of the two.

In that regard, the cost could be brought down a little bit if you pay for Prime yearly (about $16.59 per month combined). But similar holds true for every other streaming service. There only appears to be annual savings for paying the base subscription yearly, no annual option for the ad-free option.

Edit: While looking further into it, I had seen that there may have been a $9/mo standalone subscription to Prime Video with no other Prime benefits, giving you a cost of $1 less than Apple TV if you paid for ad-free (back when that was $3), but that now appears to be fake news. They hiked ad-free and I can't find any page advertising the standalone subscription anymore.

Also worth noting that the price of Apple TV should be compared to ad-free tiers of other streaming services, since they have no ad-supported tier.

(Prices per month in USD)

  • Apple TV: $12.99
  • Disney+ Ad-Free: $18.99
  • Netflix Ad-Free: $19.99
  • HBO Ad-Free: $18.49
  • Amazon Ad-Free: $19.98

Even then, though, I wouldn't trust preorders enough to do it. Stores love taking preorders, but they don't factor that in with the amount of stock they'll receive.

I remember seeing posts from folks who lined up to pick up their preorders of big games like Spider-Man and Tears of the Kingdom on release day, only to get told by the store that they didn't actually have enough stock to honor everyone's preorder.

It's often said that a language is just a dialect with an army.

Portuguese and Spanish (Castilian) are more closely related than Castilian is to Catalan. Yet Catalan is often classified as a dialect of Spanish than a language in its own right.

Nintendo maybe. Sony likes buyouts too, just not on the scale of Microsoft. Ask Destiny fans how well Sony's buyout of Bungie is going.

'You would never find a nicer, kinder person,' the father added about his son. 'He's a committed, conservative Christian, a tremendous father, a tremendous husband. I couldn't be more proud of him.'

"Nice" and "kind" seem mutually exclusive with "committed, conservative Christian"

  1. Color TV implies "full color", black and white are only two colors of many.

  2. Towels collect skin cells and get wet when used, which can enable the growth of mold if not dried quickly enough.

  3. Depends on how many of the nurse's clients become the husband's clients.

I used the calculator to write "5318008" so it looks like it says "BOOBIES" upside-down.

What, so I can be underpaid to do the most stressful and undersupported job ever, with the chance that the next political controversy may force me to go weeks or months without pay, and then feel the guilt of killing several hundred people if I screw up?
