before jumping to conclusions i'd just try asking her how/why it got to her in that way.
But yeah lawyer facebook, delete the gym and hit the up.
This is great AITA copypasta lmao
I was just saying how normal the comments on these posts are and it feels.... weird.
OP, NTA
IDK, seems kinda over the top here? Something is definitely eating at her, but jumping to a divorce?
I think a side effect of tons of divorce posts on Reddit/Lemmy often skews the perspective of red flags.
Most importantly, thereβs tons of things we donβt know about OPβs life. Personally, I would never in my life jump to a divorce because some people online said to. Most people marry intending for it to be permanent, and there have been times where people make stupid decisions because they blindly took the advice of strangers online without talking to a professional.
So yeah, the comments here arenβt βtameβ, theyβre what you would expect if this was a real scenario in an otherwise happy and functional marriage.
Did she say why she was upset? Is she worried she's eating too many? Just that she thought it was a prank and not nice?
I don't think you're an AH, but it does sound like your wife might be insecure about how much chocolate she's been eating. I'm picturing her telling herself "I'll let myself eat this much but then I'm back on a diet!" Or something to that effect. Then come to learn you've been foiling her plan in the background. Which is also something someone who is insecure about stuff might not want to say: that they are on a diet or worried about eating too much.
All just a bunch of assuming.
Well it sounds like most of us really can't! She's probably just having a moment of irrationality as we all do from time to time. There's probably something else going on but I doubt it's worth it to try to figure it out.
NTA Sheβs probably just upset with herself because she ate too much chocolate (in her opinion) and now feels badly about it. She feels the need to place blame somewhere, anywhere but on herself. I donβt think you did anything wrong. What you did was super sweet.
NTA
Sounds like an odd thing to be upset about. I don't know why she'd be angry. Sounds like she might've thought she was going nuts and got angry out of embarrassment.
It's not about the chocolate, something else is eating at her. Talk to her and find out what that is. NTA
Lawyer up. Divorce her!!1!
Sorry, reddit habits die hard.
NAH (No Assholes Here)
What's her relationship with food like? Has someone messed with her food before? It's odd she jumped straight to prank rather than caring gesture. Seems you both handled a misunderstanding well.
NTA, it was obviously not a prank but a thoughtful gesture
i'd say it could count as a prank but like a wholesome one
NTA, just a miscommunication of some kind.
NTA, and unconscious snacking is a bitch but you arenβt responsible for your wives indulging. I bet she didnβt realize how much sheβs eating, and if she is like my sister possibly even thinking look at how long Iβve made this chocolate last and patting herself on the back.
My sister and her husband have these arguments every so often.
Yay for contributing, too. We need to find some assholes and direct them here.
NTA. Thatβs just plain irrational. If someone brings me more and more of my favorite thing thatβs considered being nice and thoughtful. How dare you be nice and thoughtful! Must be a prank. /s
NTA as other mention the only reason I could think for a reaction like that is because of the surprise at how much chocolate was eaten. Still though, nice gesture OP! I would be as confused as you.
NTA. But I feel like there is something else going on here. You should probably sit your wife down and have a face to face conversation about this because what she did is definitely off. Why would she be upset and thinks this a prank? IDK man this seems very suspicious.
NTA you couldn't have known she didn't like it. She even failed to explain what's wrong with it.
NTA but these comments are everything XD
NTA - It's a sweet gesture.
INFO: why did she jump to the assumption that you were pranking her? Have you pulled pranks, jokes, teases, funny asides, or anything adjacent prior to this?
hey just so you know, people post on AITA so they can know whether they did something wrong. Saying "you suck" isn't going to bring encouragement, points, or happiness. Your downvotes are caused by your general childish attitude regarding OP, rather than just the opinion of who's the AH. Just looking for a change of perspectives.
if she's fat then just stop eating chocolate???
Well, there are always 2 sides to an argument. I think OP's NTA, but subconscious snacking is a factor here. I'm fortunateley young enough to not be affected too much by this. However, it would be reasonable for OP's wife to ask him to stop, instead of straight up calling him an asshole. It's also not easy to just "stop eating", and saying "you suck" is a little extreme. Everyone makes mistakes, and this one isn't worth making someone an AH. Everyone except OP just had an extreme reaction so something as simple as eating a little much chocolate. Maybe not, though, I can't read tone. Anyways, wish the best of everyone.
NTA but never underestimate a woman!
thanks for using Leebra!

These comments in this thread are way too tame.
So let me pull out the beloved AITA cutlery set: She's of course fully aware that what you did was not a prank but a loving gesture. She's gaslighting you, so she doesn't have to admit that she ate more than she should have and intended to eat in the first place. You should know that gaslighting is common manipulation tactic of abusers like your wife. You are NTA obviously and you should get a divorce. (Where the hell is the red flag emoji here?)
