But most right wing forums are echo chambers who don't allow non-conservatives. If this place allows for non-conservatives (non-troll) comments, I'm all for it.

EDIT: People who don't want conservative communities on lemmy or on this lemmy instance, you mind sharing why? I'm not a conservative and I don't have much sympathy for the conservative worldview if I'm being honest, but isolating them is not helpful to anyone.. As long as they follow the rules of the instance (which will probably be tricky, but we'll see..), they should stay in my view.

I rather have them here were they are forced to occasionally see other opinions that question their worldview. Who knows, maybe a few will even start to question their worldview and change some of their opinions..

Considering every comment reply to you has been removed my the moderator (except for their comments), I’m doubting this will be the case.

undefined> I don’t want a conservative echo chamber anywhere near me like there is on reddit with r/conservative.

But echo chambers like r/politics are OK? Did you ever once condemn a leftist group?

undefined> But that said, I’ll always vote for them over the far worse option

I would love to know your personal financial situation if you think voting for people who have killed the economy with inflation is a good thing.

I'm perfectly fine with a conservative board being up. But certainly not an alt right group to foment hate.

I'm not throwing accusations at any posters here, I just saw that extremism bullshit spread on reddit, and all I can say to that is: fuck all that noise.

Any patriotfront neonazi fucks aren't welcome here. Proud boys can pack in their u-hauls and fuck right off. I don't want propaganda machines here either.

Actual conservative conversation (a la pre-trumpism)? I think that's totally acceptable.

Conservative doesn't mean what it used to, and a lot of users are afraid of seeing toxic echo-chamers that lead to extremism in the form of violence. In the form of attempting insurrection. In the form of planning kidnappings of government officials. Driving vehicles thru peaceful protesters...

No more mincing words. Q-anon/alt right is a dangerous fringe political ideology. That's not welcome here.

Is it really though? I'm sure the far right people say the same thing about the far left

I'm not so sure about that; I just took a good look at beehaw... there is some very strong and obvious left wing bias going on over there. Judging from the many "removed by mod" posts, that may be true here, as well.

US Politics was never intended to be something that divides our nation; it's meant to bring us together. The entire point of a voting republic was to enable the people to feel like they have a voice, even when they don't always get what they want. When one party or the other pushes hard against even the existence of any dissenting voices, that's when you know that you have a real problem. And that's exactly the kind of single-voiced government that the US Constitution was drafted to fight against.

So don't think about "the opposing side" right now; rather, ask yourself:

  • Have I ever bristled at the very thought of a dissenting opinion being expressed around me?
    • For example, have I ever rage-changed the station, just because I found the television at work on "the wrong" news channel?
  • Have any of my politically motivated friends ever behaved in this manner?
  • Do my party leaders ever appear to exhibit these kinds of attitudes?

(Be honest with at least yourself... you know the answers all too well.)

If any of those things are true, maybe the change you're really looking for needs to start from within.

For example, have I ever rage-changed the station, just because I found the television at work on “the wrong” news channel?

That's all fine and well when arguments are presented fairly and honestly. What I find a lot in the conservative news media is presentations of issues that make sense on the surface, but don't add up once put under a microscope.

A great example I thought up last night is the Monty Hall problem. On the surface it seems very obvious that once you're down to picking between 2 doors, that it's a 50/50 chance (this is the argument presented by the right wing news media -- typically with a lot of attitude). However, the truth, upon further scrutiny is that there's a 66% chance the door you didn't pick has the prize (this is what the research gives me, and what the left wing news media just reports as "the news" without the attitude).

That doesn't mean people on the right are dumb, like with the Monty Hall problem one of the smartest mathematicians of the 20th century, Paul Erdős, was fooled.

The mods can kill this comment if they'd like, but that's genuinely my perspective. When I try to engage with conservative arguments on the internet, I always find myself doing hours of research, only to conclude the person I'm responding to didn't do their homework, and just listened to a talk show...
