That post seems to be missing.

But if we post anyway, shouldn't it still be visible to everyone but the Beehaw users? So Lemmy.world and Lemmy.ml users etc should all be able to see each other's comments, just no interaction with those Beehaw users right?

I just tried browsing news@beehaw.org from another instance and I don't see this post. Since this post never made it to Beehaw, I don't think other instances are picking it up. They only pull lemmy.world posts from lemmy.world.

Case in point. We're having this discussion right now. I think it's fine to still be subscribed to Beehaw unless I'm missing something. I guess you might just be typing to people that can't reply. The OP for instance.

If you’re logged into your LW account, anything you post to an old Beehaw community subscription will only be viewable to lemmy.world people. Other servers won’t see it. Even servers that are federated with LW.

When a sever defederates, the communities should really disappear or let the user know they’re dead. But that feature hadn’t been build yet. It’s still in the GitHub backlog.

I tried registering for Beehaw and haven't heard anything, but I'm mostly a lurking up-voter anyway, so I guess I'll keep sending those into the void along with this comment.

One of two things is probably happening. Either the admins are struggling to sift through a backlog of account application requests, or whatever you typed in the account application didn’t jive with an admin.

Alternatively, you could also get an account on a server that is federated with beehaw, that way you don’t have to go through beehaw’s gatekeeping process.

Is there anyway to know if they just didn't like it?

I still haven't heard anything. I really like what they're trying to do. I wouldn't want all instances to be like that, but I think it's nice to have some, but they are clearly struggling with manpower for now.

Why did Beehaw sever federation?

Tyvm! After I asked that it dawned on me that I could probably put in a tiny amount of effort to answer my own question.

You’re all good. I would’ve written an answer, but the backstory is a little complex.

One thing is for sure with the fediverse.... "Subreddit drama" will take exponentially more air time due to the politics of federation

More than a little! The link was plenty, thank you for sharing it. I’m a little bummed by the decision but I understand why they made it.

Can I still subscribe to Beehaw communities from lemmy.world? I'd rather try to keep things under one account for now, and I'm fine not being able to post or comment.

You cannot. You need multiple accounts.

Well that sucks, and to be honest kills a lot of my enthusiasm for this new platform. If a few bad users from an instance means entire integration can be removed, then it is a constant worry about it happening again; especially as the number of users grow. People are idiots, especially online. It's only a matter of time before it happens again.

I happen to have been subscribed to several communities from beehaw, and now those are just gone, through no fault of my own. If lemmy.world is becoming a bad faith partner to the other instances, then maybe the mod team here needs to step it up. Otherwise, beehaw won't be the last to do this. Maybe I'm just better off migrating somewhere else.

The problem is with beehaw, not the platform. The solution is to have a news instance without beehaw's weird rules. It'll catch on because more people want news than an echo-chamber.

This is pretty annoying...anyone know of any good alternatives for News@beehaw.org?

Best way to find new federated News communities is to click communities > all > search for "news" and checkout the communities with the most users / activity.
