News aggregation option?

3 years ago by punkfrog to c/selfhosting

Hi friends! Is there a good alternative to a news + feeds aggregator such as Feedly? I need to monitor some RSS feeds and other sources such as blogs and websites. I tried installing feedpushr but it already struggled with importing some RSS feeds and doesn't do other sources, so I think I need something more flexible/powerful.

FreshRSS does everything you need, and FeedMe is a good Android client if you need one.

RSS is an old enough standard (1999) that there are a LOT of options available – biggest limitation is what platform and do you want standalone program/app or web-based?

Unfortunately many of the sources I want to check don't offer RSS; so it would need to be a bit more flexible. Web based would be nice

I use https://miniflux.app/ now after switching from tinytinyRSS, which was in fact, not so tiny πŸ˜‰

Miniflux has a simple, minimal web UI which works nicely from any device. It is kept simple and minimal, which I consider nice but might not be everyone's cup of tea.

In short: this is small, nice, easy to use and it runs on minimal resources. I'm happily using it for years already. πŸ‘

If you find that you're generally reading articles on a single device (e.g. your phone), consider a local RSS reader app that doesn't require a server elsewhere. I've been using read you for this (also interested in trying out feeder ), and its a great, simple, elegant solution. The occasion where I'd like to see the feed on my computer is definitely outweighed by not having to manage self-hosting or pay for an online solution.
