Brain: That was really selfish of you to not notice and compliment them on something first. Pretty entitled of you to just accept their compliment like you know you deserve it. Do you even think of anyone other than yourself? You are such a self–absorbed attention whore and they know that now.

Here’s the trick: they went out on a limb and complimented you. They didn’t have to do that. Maybe they were nervous, or worried you’d reject them or laugh at them. Instead, you validated their compliment. You probably in turn made their day. There’s nothing selfish about that. Go get yourself a gummy, and stop overthinking things. As Freud once said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.”
