Seems like it was just a "the 70s being the 70s"-thing. Remember that for a while, people also assumed, actual pornographic scenes would become a mainstay of mainstream cinema.

Sounds like they were cool people, I need to get this album sometime.
Edit: Definitely very anchored in the 70's musical style, but their song Uranus (Space Butt Hole) is actually decent.
