I just did for several hours. Hardly anyone else there either
I must imagine the solitude enhances the ruins so much. I see pics of ruins that are crowded with visitors, and while it's legitimately great that many people enjoy them, I feel like the sense of a distant, lost past is lessened by a bunch of other modern folk around.
Exactly this. I also noticed I enjoyed the ruined sites way more since not everything is explained, and everywhere you look is something else to notice, another mystery to explore. For example, in the Priory, there are large piles of stone, covered in dirt and grass. Some of the stones were obviously cut and finished. It was a large stone building of some sort, unexcavated and waiting to be explained. That sort of mystery is just the best feeling.
Also, the larger outer wall had no known purpose, but it was 3 acres in size, with 5 towers guarding it. Only sheep graze there now, but something was important enough to put a wall around it. More mystery.

What is a ruin? We’re running off of “You know it when you see it” at the moment. Ruins should be non-functioning structures of some age, or their function reduced to tourism and the like.

Incredible. I'd love to just wander those ruins.
